MYTH: Women in got their positions by sleeping with powerful men.

FACT: earn leadership positions through their qualifications, hard work, experience, skills, and determination not through the harmful stereotypes that society often attaches to their success.

In Zimbabwe, successful are frequently subjected to unfair accusations that seek to discredit their achievements and undermine their leadership. These claims are rooted in bias and reinforce the belief that women cannot attain positions of influence on merit alone.

When men reach high-ranking positions, their success is often attributed to competence and dedication. Women deserve the same recognition.

By spreading these myths, we not only disrespect accomplished women but also discourage and young women from aspiring to roles.

Let's challenge stereotypes, celebrate achievement, and create a culture where women are recognized for their capabilities, contributions, and leadership.

A woman's success is not a scandal it is an achievement.

We remain gravely concerned that in the same sitting today, the State’s primary argument on the proposed merger of the Zimbabwe Gender Commission to the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission largely relies on western democracies whose constitutional foundations and ethos on gender equality differ significantly from the
local context.

The Women's Academy for Leadership and Political Excellence (WALPE Zimbabwe) notes with concern that the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3), which seeks to abolish the Zimbabwe Gender Commission, is now before Parliament. We urge Members of Parliament to use the power entrusted to you by the people to reject any provisions that abolish or weaken the Zimbabwe Gender Commission. The fate of the ZGC is now in your hands.
