Restoring Dignity at Mtunzi Primary School: Breaking the Cycle of Period Poverty.

In celebration of International Women’s Month, Agape Family Care (AFC), under the visionary guidance of Ruth Emmanuel-Makandiwa continues its mission to champion the rights of the vulnerable. Recently, the AFC team traveled to Mtunzi Primary School in Makonde District Ward 13 to address a silent crisis, "period poverty". For many girls at Mtunzi, menstruation often meant a choice between dignity and education. Faced with a lack of basic sanitary wear, students have been forced to use unhygienic alternatives like pieces of cloth or cow dung. In many cases, the fear of stigma and embarrassment led girls to skip school entirely, losing precious days of learning every month. By providing a comprehensive donation of sanitary pads, AFC is removing these obstacles. This initiative ensures that no girl has to worry about her health or appearance while at school. Instead, she can focus on her studies, her confidence restored and her future bright. This initiative is not just about donating pads, we are empowering future doctors, teachers, and leaders. One student at a time, we are ensuring that "period poverty" becomes a thing of the past.
