Inclusive education is not a privilege it is a right. And turning that right into reality requires commitment, accountability and action.

The Senator representing people with disabilities speaks to the urgent need to strengthen inclusive education and ensure that learners with disabilities are meaningfully included in Zimbabwe’s education system.

As Zimbabwe advances the finalisation and implementation of the Inclusive Education Policy, the voices of persons with disabilities must be at the centre of policy dialogue and decision making.

The message is clear: inclusion must move from policy commitments to implementation. No learner should be excluded. No voice should be left unheard.

What will it take to ensure every child in Zimbabwe can access, participate in and benefit from quality education?

Today, Education Coalition of Zimbabwe - ecozi Gender Equality and Inclusion Thematic Committe is bringing together key stakeholders for an Inclusive Education Engagement Meeting under the theme:

“Leaving No Learner Behind: Advancing the Finalization and Implementation of Zimbabwe’s Inclusive Education Policy.”

The engagement is focused on building stakeholder commitment and political momentum towards the launch of the Inclusive Education Policy, while identifying a coordinated advocacy pathway for its approval and implementation.

From disability organisations and teachers to parents, young people, Parliament and Government, diverse voices are coming together to answer one critical question:

How can we accelerate inclusive education reform so that no learner is excluded?

Education Coalition of Zimbabwe - ecozi Programmes Manager, Ms Wadzanayi Chitiga , presented the Coalition’s proposed 2027 education budget priorities at the Parliament of Zimbabwe, drawing on inputs gathered from ECOZI members through a Google consultation process.

As national consultations get underway, ECOZI continues to amplify the voices of education stakeholders across all 10 provinces of Zimbabwe. The parliamentary engagement brought together ECOZI members and partners, including Zimbabwe Teachers' Association (ZIMTA) , Zimbabwe Network of Early Childhood Development Actors and Signs of Hope Trust, Zimbabwe , among others.

The presentation highlighted key areas that ECOZI believes should receive priority attention in the 2027 National Budget, including:

✅️Funding foundational literacy to strengthen early learning outcomes.
✅️Investing in teacher effectiveness and professional development.
✅️Improving water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities in schools.
✅️Strengthening ICT financing to support digital learning and innovation.

ECOZI remains committed to ensuring that the voices and priorities of education stakeholders inform national planning and budgeting processes, towards inclusive, equitable and quality education for every learner in Zimbabwe.

Today, we celebrate and honour the teachers who inspire, empower and shape the future of Zimbabwe.

Under the theme “Standing with Teachers: Advancing Professionalism, Innovation and Quality Education for Zimbabwe’s Future,” we recognise the dedication, resilience and invaluable contribution of teachers in ensuring every learner has access to inclusive, equitable and quality education.

Education Coalition of Zimbabwe - ecozi Director, Mr Elvis Chitsungo , participated in the recently concluded 3rd Term Joint Monitoring Visit (JMV) in Goromonzi and Seke Districts, Mashonaland East Province.

The visit assessed schools’ preparedness for public examinations and monitored the implementation of programmes and projects led by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

The monitoring team was encouraged by the level of teaching and learning taking place, as well as schools’ preparedness for the public examinations. The important role of Child Protection Committees in promoting learner safety, welfare and protection was also recognised.

However, the visit highlighted persistent challenges affecting equitable access to education. Some learners travel up to 36 km to reach school, while others reportedly use canoes to cross a dam, raising serious safety and access concerns.

The team also observed a concerning number of non-readers, reinforcing the need for stronger foundational literacy interventions, early identification and support for learners, and closer monitoring of learning outcomes.

These findings reaffirm the importance of continued collaboration among Government, schools, communities and education sector partners to address barriers to access, strengthen learner protection and improve learning outcomes.

Together, we can ensure no learner is left behind.

Education Coalition of Zimbabwe - ecozi joined the Ministry of Primary & Secondary Education, Zimbabwe for the Third Term Joint Monitoring Visit to community owned ECD Play Centres.

The visit provided an opportunity to assess progress, engage with communities, and strengthen efforts towards inclusive, quality and accessible Early Childhood Development for every learner.

Together, we are building stronger foundations for Zimbabwe’s youngest learners.

Education Coalition of Zimbabwe - ecozi and Ministry of Primary & Secondary Education, Zimbabwe have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), strengthening collaboration towards an inclusive, equitable, resilient and quality education system.

The partnership will strengthen policy dialogue, evidence sharing, stakeholder engagement and joint initiatives keeping the needs and voices of learners, teachers, parents and communities at the centre.

Together, we are strengthening voices, shaping policies and contributing to an education system that leaves no learner behind.

Education Coalition of Zimbabwe - ecozi and Ministry of Primary & Secondary Education, Zimbabwe have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in advancing education in Zimbabwe.

The MoU provides a framework for structured engagement, information sharing, policy dialogue, evidence generation, coordination and joint initiatives in support of national education priorities.

Through this partnership, ECOZI will continue mobilising its membership and networks to support constructive policy dialogue, generate and share evidence, strengthen stakeholder participation, and amplify the experiences of learners, teachers, parents and communities in education policy processes.

Together, we look forward to translating this commitment into practical programmes, meaningful dialogue and measurable results contributing to a safe, inclusive, equitable and quality education system that leaves no learner behind.

Education Coalition of Zimbabwe - ecozi was pleased to host Dr. Limbani Nsapato , ANCEFA Moderator for Southern Africa at our offices , for an engaging reflection virtual meeting on the recent SADC Civil Society Summit and Conference on Education.

Discussions focused on strengthening regional collaboration and collective advocacy on key priorities, including girls’ education, Early Childhood Development (ECD), education financing, inclusive quality education, and climate resilience.

ECOZI values these partnerships in translating regional commitments into meaningful action.
