Road Safety Africa (RoSA) solicits ideas, encourages robust, constructive debate; engages Road Traffic authorities in Zimbabwe & Africa to urgently STOP! road traffic accidents (RTAs). Yes, all of us together should demand, and can help to STOP! in Zimbabwe and the rest of Africa; the, for example, blatant, unsafe overloading of motor vehicles that nevertheless, each carries a well-marked carryin
g capacity that is all too-oftenly ignored! Add to that, the general careless over-speeding of mass-transport vehicles such as the 'Kombi' in Zimbabwe; which overloading and speeding is a deadly concoction that kills (and maims) so many thousands of innocent people, particularly around public holidays such as Christmas, turning the festive period into gnashing-of-teeth and mourning for many unfortunate familes... Add to that, many commuter omnibus drivers in Zimbabwe were NOT properly licensed; neither were they properly trained to safely and with dignity transport fare-paying passengers from A-B. Then, in Zimbabwe, like in much-of-Africa, the levels of traffic police corruption is the stuff-of-legend. It's a cancer that has festered because we, the people, do not robustly tackle it head-on. We are all encouraged to report to the authorities, anything; the police vehicle numbers, names, road block site or any such relevant information to help prosecute and remove from the road the corrupt traffic police. We will also encourage the authorities to build-and-maintain, in all areas, as far as possible, standard roads and keep them well-maintained. Then of course, there's the small matter of the ill-gotten driver's license that can be corruptly 'bought', like a loaf of bread; precipitating the common road traffic accidents as such an undeserving 'driver' is an accident waiting to happen, to themselves and others. Let's please use this forum to submit ideas, pictures; anything, as long as you think it will help to curb now-rampant RTAs.
