JAT was formed in 2007 through its registration as a Trust, on the 13th of June 2007, Trust Deed number MA600/07. JAT was formed by 3 legal practitioners registered with the law society of Zimbabwe who had realised that the law had played a very limited role in the prevention, management and mitigation of the HIV and AIDS epidemic in Zimbabwe. The founder members in forming the Trust, were mov
ed by the devastating human rights and legal consequences HIV and AIDS has had on Zimbabwean communities, and despite these devastating legal and human rights consequences, however there was no organization dedicated to providing the much needed legal services to people living with and affected HIV and AIDS in Zimbabwe. The Trust was thus formed in the believe that, The protection and promotion of human rights are necessary both to the protection of the inherent dignity of persons affected by HIV and to the achievement of public health goals of reducing vulnerability to HIV infection , lessening the adverse impact of HIV and AIDS on those affected and empowering individuals and communities to respond to HIV.
