We have the dogs and highly trained handlers ready for deployment. Our immediate requirement is support towards the logistical mobilisation, field deployment, and ongoing maintenance of these teams so they can effectively support wildlife protection efforts on the ground.

𝙏𝙍𝙄𝘽𝙐𝙏𝙀 𝙏𝙊 𝙈𝘼𝙅𝙊𝙍 𝙇𝙀𝙑𝙄

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Anti-Poaching K9, **𝙈𝙖𝙟𝙤𝙧 𝙇𝙚𝙫𝙞**.

Major Levi went to be with his Maker this morning. He had shown no signs of ill health, and only on Saturday he delivered an outstanding demonstration, not knowing that it would be his way of saying goodbye. He was found peacefully lying lifeless on his kennel bed this morning.

Major Levi was part of the contingent deployed to the Zambezi Valley in 2022 in support of the International Anti-Poaching Foundation (IAPF), now known as Akashinga. Throughout his tour of duty, he served with distinction, dedication, and unwavering loyalty.

Everyone who had the privilege of interacting with Levi will remember him as a strong, friendly, and courageous companion. There was nothing he loved more than seeing his Kong, harness, and leash—clear signs that it was time to work. While the other K9 teams were eventually withdrawn, Levi remained in service, passing through the capable hands of three female Akashinga dog handlers: 𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙮𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙙𝙯𝙤, 𝙎𝙜𝙩. 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙮, and 𝙁𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚.

Levi left an indelible mark on wildlife conservation. Many students at the training kennels learned invaluable lessons through him. As a Belgian Malinois, he was exceptionally intelligent, lovable, easy-going, and always eager to serve.

In recognition of his outstanding service and contribution to conservation, the Training Directorate has posthumously and unanimously conferred upon Captain Levi the rank of **𝙈𝙖𝙟𝙤𝙧.

Major Levi's remains will be laid to rest today at the K9 Cemetery at the Training Centre, where he will join the ranks of other faithful canine heroes who served before him.

Major Levi, you fought a good fight. Your service, loyalty, and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Your pawprints remain forever etched in our hearts and in the history of wildlife conservation.
