A Road Block at night!!! I was alone and (was it safe?) to break, stop & listen. Yes (i did it) in respect of nature.

Majestic moments!!!

Around 04:00hrs on 08 March 2026 in Simbanegavi area (pazvidhoma) on my way from Harare (Zimbabwean Capital) to my rural home (Gutu). The creature of supercharged vision 4-8 times stronger than humans, with a 340-degree field of view and a speed that can be over 322 km/h in the skies

Crucial to our Environment, we need them, lets protect the *APEX PREDATORS & SCAVENGERS* as they regulate populations & clean up carcasses (reduce the spread of diseases and mantain health ecosystems)

"Hippopotamuses"
"Hippos" for short.

The name comes from the Greek words "hippos" (horse) and "potamos" (river)
and hence called "River Horses"

They are considered a "mega-herbivore" playing a key role in shaping their ecosystems through creating pathways and habitats for other animals. Hippos are listed as listed vulnerable on the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss and poaching.

Nature's Own Apartments - Home to all critters. *Den trees / Hollow trees*

These are tree "holes" or "cavities". They are habitats and nesting sites for various animals, lizzards, birds, insects, and even mammals. Very crucial in the forest ecosystems, offering shelter and breeding grounds.

the Marindi Falls is a breathtaking waterfall located deep in the Vumba Mountains of the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe, about 20km from the City of Mutare. A tranquil oasis surrounded by lush greenery and roaring waters perfect for those who want to ESCAPE INTO NATURE. A perfect head bath with the cascading milky flows down the rocky cliffs, creating a mesmerizing spectacle and relaxation.

From one side to the other;
From Zimbabwe to Zambia;
Crossing the Mighty Zambezi River;
Elephant Migration

The Kavango Zambezi Trans Frontier Conservation Area is a true commitment of the Southern African countries to preserve their unique biodiversity spanning across Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe

The area is a haven for diverse flora and fauna and here is a crucial corridor for one of the most remarkable wildlife spectacles on the planet—the migration of the African elephant

An inspiring journey of African elephants across the mighty Zambezi River, known for its intelligence, social bonds, and ecological impact- They move as a group ensuring the calves are safe from river predators and are not stuck in the mud

As this incredible journey unfolds each and every time, it showcases the resilience and adaptability of elephants and the significance of transboundary conservation efforts in safeguarding Africa’s natural heritage.

Filmed in Zambezi National Park of Zimbabwe

Elephants are among the Big Five of Africa. Did you know that when flapping of the huge ears is not enough to keep them cool, the African elephants will go and find water or mud to cool themselves. During the cooling time, they spray water and mud on their bodies, especially behind their ears. See them as they submerge their whole bodies under the water – something brilliant to see and besides the size and weight, elephants are excellent swimmers and love to do so alone or with their favoured elephant groups. This has the additional benefit of strengthening social ties and building bonds.

Hippos; Hippopotamuses; “River Horses”

These are huge, water-loving animals native to Africa. They are the third largest living land mammals, after elephants and white rhinos.

Larger than buffalos and leopards but not on the list of the Big Five of Africa. This is so because the Big Five are referred to as the hardest and dangerous animals to hunt on foot. They are animals considered dangerous and ferocious when injured or cornered.
With Hippos, they spend most of their day lazing around in water, making them quite easy to hunt. Even though Hippos kill, it’s not that hard to track one down and kill it hence not on the list of the big Five.

They live in areas with abundant water, and can spend upto 16 hours a day submerged in water to keep their skin cool and moist.

Thankyou again Women & Land in Zimbabwe for calling us as your photographer at the 2025 Good Seed and Food Festival. Indeed it was a unique celebration of seed, culture, and community. Growing our own seed, eating our own food and selling that which belongs to us - is the only way to ensure resilience of our communities against the impacts of climate change. Lets continue to safeguard our traditional seed systems.
