Having grown up in a rural community, I had a conviction that effective development work can only be meaningful if rural girls are at the center of the development agenda.

The expansion to rural communities was met with backlash by elite feminists in air conditioned buildings and hotel conferences.

I still insisted. Neglecting rural girls meant I was being fake. I chose the unpopular path…

Being an SRHR activist means responding to critical matters related to girls health and wellness, in a holistic manner.

Restricted funding streams sometimes force us into silos, then we became scattered!

Local CSOs have a duty to expand the agenda, not to shrink it.

The women’s month is coming to an end!

Let’s be reminded:

The International Women's Day 2026 (IWD 2026), theme is:

“Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls”, calls for action to dismantle all barriers to equal justice: discriminatory laws, weak legal protections, and harmful practices and social norms that erode the rights of women and girls.

As we wrap up , Katswe Sistahood— supported by My Age Africa, Africa Trust and the of Women Affairs, Community, Small to Medium Enterprises —brought young women from Epworth together for a powerful community dialogue on digital gender-based violence.

In a world where online spaces shape our daily lives, young women are increasingly exposed to harassment, abuse, and exploitation. This dialogue created a safe platform to unpack these experiences, deepen awareness, and strengthen prevention, protection, and reporting pathways.

Together, we are building informed, confident, and empowered digital citizens who know their rights and are ready to claim them beyond the 16 days.

As we continue with , under the PROSE-ECM project, Katswe Sistahood convened a Religious Leaders Roundtable with the support of Plan International Zimbabwe

With their moral authority and deep community influence, religious leaders are critical allies in ending child marriages and protecting the rights of girls. Their voices, teachings, and actions can shift harmful norms and build safer futures for every child.

Together, we are strengthening faith-based leadership to say NO to child marriage and YES to girls’ education, dignity and choice.

Amplifying youth-led advocacy during and beyond !

Katswe Sistahood in partnership with Plan International Zimbabwe held a Youth Indaba in Ward 11, Zhombe under the leadership of Chief Ntabeni. This event brought together traditional leaders, parents and young people to address the urgent issue of child marriages in Kwekwe district.

Key commitments were made:
• Village-based sensitisation on child marriages will be led by village heads
• Traditional leaders will actively encourage girls to remain in school, support birth registration and promote early reporting of child marriage cases
• The Silobela police were urged to be re-sensitised on the correct age of consent, following community confusion around the law
• Chiefs, headmen and village heads in Wards 11 and 14 pledged to report all child marriages and allow the law to take its course

This is a bold stand to close the gaps that have allowed child marriages to persist.

is more than a slogan, it is a commitment. Village Heads, Headman Mabhande and Chief Ntabeni declared: change starts with me and with us as a community.

Together, we can end child marriage.

Together, we can break barriers and create lasting change. Let’s end AIDS by 2030! 💪🏾

In commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Katswe Sistahood partnered with Femme Voice for a community dialogue on Digital Violence and Women’s Safety in Dzivarasekwa 1.

Engaging with women in our communities is crucial for simplifying the discourse around technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV). Through breaking down and translating complex terms, we empower women to recognize, address, and combat digital violence effectively.

Let’s continue advocating for a safer digital environment! 💜✊🏽
