This week, our Harare South Western District Team with support from the National AIDS Council of Zimbabwe has successfully conducted a Group Safe Space (GSS) Meeting for young people living with HIV at Western Triangle Satellite Clinic. The session brought together 20 young people who had an opportunity to connect, share experiences, and learn from one another in a safe and supportive environment.
The discussion focused on HIV partner disclosure, with participants reviewing practical approaches and sharing best practices for communicating their HIV status with their s*xual partners. Group Safe Spaces provide an important platform where young people can access accurate information, build confidence, learn from peer experiences, and receive support when navigating challenging conversations around HIV.
Two participants shared their personal experiences of successfully disclosing their HIV status to their s*xual partners after gaining knowledge and confidence through the Group Safe Space sessions. Their experiences demonstrate the value of creating supportive spaces where young people can openly discuss HIV-related issues without fear of judgement or stigma.
During their disclosure conversations, the participants also shared information about U=U Undetectable = Untransmittable and encouraged their partners to access additional HIV prevention services at health facilities. These experiences highlight how peer support, accurate information, and access to health services can contribute to stronger relationships, informed decision-making, and improved HIV prevention outcomes.
