ETHIOPIA 🇪🇹: Thousands of Armed Fighters Accept Peace Option in Central Gondar Zone

Thousands of armed fighters in the Central Gondar Zone of Ethiopia have accepted the government's peace initiative, according to the zone's Head of Peace and Security Affairs, Anteneh Tadesse.
He stated that significant progress is being achieved through coordinated efforts aimed at restoring peace in the area. As a result of these comprehensive initiatives during the current budget year, thousands of fighters have laid down their arms and embraced the government's peace program.

Most of those who accepted the peace option have completed rehabilitation and reintegration training and have already returned to their communities.

Following the training, efforts are being made to help them return to their previous occupations, create new employment opportunities, and receive livelihood support, with special attention being given to their successful reintegration.

Anteneh noted that the security situation in the zone is steadily improving. He attributed this progress to the public's commitment to lasting peace, the willingness of fighters to respond to calls for peace, and the fact that some former combatants have joined the security structure after completing rehabilitation training and are now contributing to maintaining peace and stability.

He also called on the remaining armed groups to recognize the destructive consequences of conflict and choose peaceful means by returning to the peace process.

According to AMICO, he further emphasized that the relative peace achieved so far should be sustained. He urged the community to continue strengthening its efforts to encourage fighters still in the forests to abandon conflict and return to peaceful life.
