The afternoon session of Day 3 continued the strong momentum set earlier in the day. Catharine Steffens, Director of Global Perspectives for the Jesuit Schools Network of North America (JSN), and Lynette Ndlovu, Education Programs Coordinator for Jesuit schools in the Southern Africa Province, opened with their presentation on 'Educating for Global Collaboration: A Student Model'.
They highlighted creating a sustainable framework enabling students to explore and respond to local and global contemporary issues. Central to this model is the development of global citizens, individuals with global hearts and local hands, who engage in collaborative research and discern actions inspired by the Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAPs). Developed through the collaboration of more than 35 Ignatian educators, the initiative strengthens networks among Jesuit schools worldwide. Its key components include forming local action teams, refining focus through research, and implementing a structured process of reflection and evaluation to ensure meaningful impact. Ultimately, the model empowers students to act as informed global citizens, promoting social justice and community engagement.
Closing the keynote sessions, Alison Stangroom, Deputy Headmistress and Head of Biology at St George’s College, who also oversees the Sixth Form, professional development, and serves on the Ignatian Ethos Committee, presented on what it means for the College to be a Jesuit school. She emphasised the importance of community engagement, highlighting the roles of students, parents, and staff in fostering a collaborative environment. Safeguarding and child protection remain paramount, with a call for all school community members to prioritise safety and well-being. She further underscored the central role of the Ignatian ethos in guiding educational practice and spiritual development, supported by programmes such as retreats and service projects that enrich student formation.
Alison also highlighted the importance of continuous professional development for staff, ensuring that educators are well-prepared to embody and promote Jesuit values in their teaching.
Day 3 of JASBEAM 2025 was truly captivating, and we look forward to sharing the insights and highlights from the final day of the Colloquium.
