โญ๏ธSpotlight on Youth Mental Health Research!โญ๏ธ

Weโ€™re truly inspired by young researchers like Fadzai who are stepping up to better understand and support mental health among Zimbabwean youth.
As a second-year PhD student, Fadzai is conducting important research on the challenges young people aged 18โ€“25 face and how positive emotions can help build mental well-being.

Sheโ€™s inviting English or Shona-speaking youth to share their experiences through a short, confidential survey. Your honest input will help shape better mental health support across our communities. As a small token of appreciation for your time, participants will receive compensation.
All details and how to participate are in the attached flyer. Thank you, Fadzai, for your dedication to this work. Together in the same community, weโ€™re building a brighter future for youth mental health! ๐Ÿฉต

A Reminder for Mental Health

As you embrace this vibrant phase of life, it's crucial to remember the importance of protecting your mental health. Here are a few key reminders:

- Stay Alert: Be vigilant about your mental well-being. Recognize the signs of stress and know when to reach out for help.
- Create Healthy Boundaries: Balance your commitments and prioritize your time for self-care.
- Stay Connected: Build a support network of friends and family. Sharing your thoughts and feelings can lighten the load.
- Engage in Mindfulness: Practices like meditation or journaling can help you stay grounded.

Remember, your mental health is just as important as your physical health. Celebrate today with joy, but also take a moment to nurture your mind and soul.

Here's to a bright future and a healthier, happier you! ๐ŸŒŸ

๐ŸŒŸ Last week, an incredible team from to Strangers Zimbabwe, led by our Director of Partnerships and Collaborations, Seann Kerry Wamuka ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿซ, Director of Outreach and Events, and our Regional Ambassador to Southern Africa Charlin Hiram ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ, visited Sally Mugabe Hospital's Psychiatric Unit. Our goal was to boost collaboration between youth-led initiatives and mental health institutions to enhance support for mental health across Zimbabwe. ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ผ

๐Ÿ’Š๐Ÿงด We made a heartfelt donation, and had the privilege of interacting with both patients and staff. Seeing the work at the Occupational Therapy Center (OTC), where patients are involved in rabbit farming ๐Ÿฐ and maize cultivation ๐ŸŒฝ, was truly inspiring.

Our partnership with Sally Mugabe Hospital Psychiatric Unit will help us expand the OTC, enhancing programs that not only support the patients but also meet the center's needs.

Here's to fostering more impactful collaborations for mental health! Let's keep the conversation going and make a real difference! ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’–

Gender-based violence (GBV) and Stockholm syndrome are two highly controversial issues that continue to spark heated debates and discussions. While GBV refers to any form of violence that is directed towards an individual on the basis of their gender, Stockholm syndrome is a psychological phenomenon in which victims of abuse develop feelings of loyalty and affection towards their abusers.

One of the main reasons why GBV and Stockholm syndrome are so controversial is because some individuals, such as sadists, view physical abuse as a form of love. These individuals may believe that inflicting pain and suffering on their partners is a way to show them how much they care. This twisted belief system not only perpetuates harmful stereotypes about abuse and love but also reinforces the cycle of violence.
Certain cultures may also have ingrained beliefs that physical abuse is a sign of power and control within a relationship. In these societies, victims of GBV may be encouraged to stay silent and endure the abuse in order to maintain family honor or avoid bringing shame upon themselves. This normalization of violence can make it incredibly difficult for victims to seek help and break free from what the rest of the world seems as abusive situations.

This brings us to my question, is gender based violence a subjective term? Share your thoughts and let us know your thoughts in the comment section. Are these cultures good or another case of Stockholm syndrome on steroids

๐ŸŒโค๏ธ Exciting Times Ahead! โค๏ธ๐ŸŒ

Weโ€™re buzzing with excitement that our Regional Ambassador got the opportunity to visit the Liberia Chapter of Letters To Strangers! ๐Ÿ™Œโœจ

Charlin gained valuable insights from the incredible work being done in Liberia, particularly the establishment of a rural school that serves over 300 students in a community that previously had no access to education. This project is making a profound impact where it's needed most! ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŒŸ

With innovative practices being shared and partnerships being strengthened, weโ€™re thrilled about our future in Southern Africa and beyond! Together, we are making strides toward promoting mental well-being and empowering communities across Africa. ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’ช

A huge thank you to our L2S HQ for the continuous supportโ€”itโ€™s the driving force behind our impactful work! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’™

Letโ€™s keep spreading hope and positivity together! ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒˆ

Check out some inspiring moments from our journeyโ€”pictures of the school, students engaged in learning, the student-led clean-up campaign on the school grounds, and the vibrant community coming together! ๐Ÿ“ธโœจ
