Dear Fellow Zimbabweans
I write to express dismay over certain behaviours and conduct by Chinese retail shops mostly located in down town area of the CBD (Harare). I am particularly concerned by the practice of subjecting their customers to primitive and dehumanising security checks as people enter & exit the shops. I am one person who frequent the area but I always find it so disturbing to see people made to climb benches and logs at exit points as well as women having their breasts fondled as some form of shoplifting control measures. In this era and day, such methods are unacceptable. Those who have been to these retailers can confirm having seen this. I am not sure if it is the duty of the City Council, or whose responsibility it is to protect citizens in that regard but it is my considered view that this practice has to be challenged, collectively. We have renowned retailers and wholesalers such as Pick n Pay, OK etc. but we are never subjected to such degrading security measures. Why can’t these people also invest in civilised security measures that do not take away human dignity? Those with know how please help ensure that the benches on entrance & exit points are removed
