PROMOTING AGE APPROPRIATE SEXUAL EDUCATION

This week, we highlight our 2024 project when we brought together senior religious leaders, youth animators, adolescents and young peopleto relflect on Promoting Age Appropriate Sexuality Education within different religious set ups. On the first day, 03 May 2024, we brought together senior religious leaders from the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference, Muslim Society In Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Council of Churches and Apostolic Sect.

They brought forward deep reflections, emphasizing the importance of protecting young people in religion and promoting social values that mould the youth into people who can build a safe, peaceful and progressive society.

🥳
As we celebrate the birthday of the Church, , and Africa Day, we take a moment to reflect on our recent addition to our grassroots. Mt. Pleasant High School has joined YCS🔥🔥🥳
The grassroot consists of vibrant and
passionate young people who are eager to join the YCS in Harare Area and participate in faith-led student action, prayer, community and development. We are grateful to one of our associates who made this encounter possible by inviting us to establish a grassroot, making sure YCS grows and remains relevant.

At YCS, we believe that students, empowered by faith, can be instrumental in positive social development, peace building and growth. We remain committed to our values of faith, resilience and steadfastness.

Through collective action and faith based advocacy, ZYCS seeks to mould students and young people to be proactive in positive social development. ZYCS recently attended a two day workshop focusing on legal frameworks governing higher and tertiary education in Zimbabwe. This initiative sought to equip student leaders, educators, and administrators with comprehensive knowledge of the regulatory environment shaping tertiary education, including teachers' colleges, polytechnical colleges, vocational training institutions, and universities. The workshop was convened and supported by Youth Empowerment and Transformation Trust (YETT) under Student Academic Freedom Regional Advocacy Program (SAFRAP), in collaboration with The Council of Students Teachers (COST) and Zimbabwe Law Students Association (ZILSA).
We proudly participate in such capacity building workshops to ensure that students voices are amplified, collaborative networks are built and students are able to advocate for policy and change from an informed perspective, as we continue to integrate unwavering faith and community development.

ZYCS joins the global movement in commemorating International Worker's Day.
YCS is an offshoot of the Young Catholic Workers movement (YCS) both founded by Cardinal Joseph Cardjin, who identified himself with the suffering, neglected and oppressed workers at the turn of the 19th century and pre-1946.

We aim to bring together students seeking community, formation and action, in the framework of the Catholic Church, at the local, national, continental and global levels; to give students resources and methodologies to help them integrate their Christian faith in their lives at all levels and in their efforts to build a more just society; and to be a voice for its student members by representing them in regional and international forums.

The dignity of the worker is paramount in ensuring a progressive society that is equally just and spiritually uplifting.

The CALL TO ACTION LINK UP ON 25 APRIL 🔥 🔥 🥳 🥳
During the Call to Action Link Up held at Our Lady of the Wayside prayer garden, ZYCS brought together members based in Harare for a day filled with fun, creativity and reflection.

The main theme of the day was "Who am I?"
Participants reflected on their personal journeys, clarified what really defines them as individuals, as members of society and as practising Christians.

Through painting, they were able to express themselves in a creative way based on their personal values and Christian faith. At ZYCS we believe every individual is unique and it is that uniqueness that makes society thrive- especially if backed by active faith!

Yesterday’s Zimbabwe Young Christian Students -ZYCS meet & greet was more than just a gathering. It was something truly special.🙏😊
For some of us, it had been 9 years since we last saw each other. For others, it was our very first time meeting in person after years of talking online for about 7 years, 4 years, even 2 years… Yet it all felt so natural, like we had always known each other.
We ate together, laughed until it hurt, danced, sang, and shared pieces of our lives. In those moments, you could feel the love, the unity, and the genuine connection we have as a family.

What brought us together wasn’t just the desire to meet. It was purpose. A shared calling to serve, to uplift the less privileged, and to be there for one another through life.

Some moments can’t be repeated a thousand times, but their memory can live on for generations… And this was one of them.
We’re truly grateful, and we pray for more moments like this again, God willing.❤️
If you’re out there looking for a family, YCS (Young Christian Students) is here for you.

A place of peace, love, and unity. No segregation, just belonging.

What another proud moment for ZYCS🎊👏🔥
We were honoured to be invited to the Western Deanery of Gokwe Youth Congress from 21 to 23 April 2026. It was a great pleasure being part a vibrant group of young people brought together by faith and need for community action. We walked with them through the path of See, Judge, Act and Reflect, and making an Option for the Poor. Together, we also explored problems being faced by young people through moral plays centred around the theme of paying heed to advice and choir competitions with the set piece Mwari wengoni zhinji. Both the moral play and song reflect the ever evolving needs of young people of faith- the need to turn to God and community when navigating the troubles of this life, and how, we as humans, do not live in a vacuum, but in a community that can best be experienced through faith which guides our everyday actions. To note is that this year, 2026, we are hoping on holding our workcamp in the Diocese of Gokwe, and this congress was a foundational step in establishing grassroots. We are grateful to the Catholic Diocese of Gokwe Youth Ministry, Western Deanery leadership, Jesuit Youth Office of Southern Africa and the ZYCS team for coming together and making this congress a success.
