📚 Nurturing Young Minds: DSA Returns to Shingirai Primary School

On July 22, the Diplomatic Spouses Association (DSA) returned to Shingirai Primary School in Mbare, Harare, to continue our support for the young learners and dedicated community members who make this school so special! 🎒✨

Shingirai Primary offers education from ECD right through to Grade 7, with the early childhood program run by the amazing volunteers at The Shingirai Trust. Following our visit last December—where we had the absolute joy of celebrating the ECD graduation ceremony—we stopped by to deliver a new donation of books, stationery, hygiene items, and cleaning supplies to help staff and students thrive. 🧼📖 pencil

Building lasting partnerships is at the heart of what we do. We're honored to walk alongside the Mbare community and invest in the bright futures of these incredible kids! 🇿🇼💙

🤝 Restoring Hope, Together: DSA Visits Trintas Orphanage

On July 22, the Diplomatic Spouses Association (DSA) had the privilege of visiting Trintas Orphanage in Epworth, Harare—a safe haven providing love, care, and basic necessities to 126 orphans and vulnerable children aged 4 to 17.

From nutritious meals and basic healthcare to informal education, Trintas works tirelessly to restore dignity and opportunity to young lives impacted by illness and hardship. To support their incredible mission, DSA donated essential stationery, hygiene products, and cleaning supplies to help lighten the load for the children and dedicated staff. 📦🧼📚

Every act of kindness—no matter the size—creates a ripple effect of hope. We remain deeply committed to standing alongside vulnerable communities across Zimbabwe and making a meaningful difference where it’s needed most. 🇿🇼✨

The first Monthly General Meeting (MGM) of the new fiscal year was graciously hosted at the Residence of the Ambassador of Palestine. Our sincere thanks go to our wonderful host, Mrs. Mona Almassri, spouse of the Ambassador of Palestine, who warmly opened the doors of her home and invited us to experience the richness of Palestinian culture, traditions, and hospitality. 🇵🇸❤️

Members enjoyed a truly memorable afternoon in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, surrounded by beautiful traditional Palestinian attire and authentic cultural displays. A highlight of the event was a live culinary demonstration by Mrs. Wafaa Siam, who introduced us to the preparation of “Kunafa”, one of Palestine's most beloved traditional desserts. 🥞✨

👋 Heartfelt Farewells
The meeting gave us an opportunity to bid a heartfelt farewell to our dear members, Mrs. Whitney Niu (DSA Deputy Treasurer) and Mrs. Gina Aristilde (spouse of the Canadian Ambassador), wishing them every success and happiness as they embark on their new journeys.

🤝 Honoring Our Valued Partners
We were especially delighted to welcome several of our valued partners whose generosity has made a meaningful difference to DSA's community projects. As a token of appreciation, DSA proudly presented Certificates of Appreciation to:

🛋️ Mr. Sidney Chirombo of Sofas Co., for his generous donation of furniture to the Family Support Room project at Sally Mugabe Hospital.

🪑 Mrs. Pauline Mackenzie, representing Chiro Public Accountants & Auditors, for their valuable contribution of additional furniture, tables, and chairs to the same project.

🧩 Mr. Gerry Maritz of Robertson's Building Systems (accepted in recognition of the generous donation made together with his business partner, Mr. Holger Wostenfeldt). Their donated play mats are already bringing joy to children at Jairos Jiri and Takunda Deaf School, with additional mats still to be distributed.

Looking ahead, the President concluded the meeting by thanking all members for their continued dedication, participation, and unwavering support of DSA activities, while encouraging everyone to remain actively involved in the exciting initiatives planned for the months ahead.

📸 A Culinary & Community Finale
The afternoon concluded with a group photo session followed by a delicious traditional Palestinian lunch, featuring a variety of authentic specialties, including the famous “Zarb”—a unique underground barbecue that offered a truly unforgettable culinary experience! 🔥🍖
Once again, our heartfelt thanks go to Mona and everyone who contributed to organizing such a wonderful gathering. It was a beautiful celebration of the spirit of giving that defines the DSA community. 🤝✨

DSA at Lin Barrie’s Art Studio in The Borrowdale Brook Estate

The DSA team had the privilege of visiting renowned Zimbabwean artist Mrs. Lin Barrie at her art studio in Borrowdale Brooke Estate on 26 May.

Our visit was a truly enriching experience that seamlessly blended a warm home atmosphere with a beautifully curated garden setting. Guests were captivated by the studio’s exceptional ambiance and remarkable artworks, which vividly reflect Lin’s passion for the natural world. Her pieces celebrate everything from authentic representations of African wild dogs to vibrant themes of wine, food, traditional dance, and responsible tourism.

Living between Chief Mahenye's Village, the Save Valley Conservancy, and Harare, Lin’s artistic practice is deeply intertwined with local people, ecosystems, and biodiversity. Using earth pigments, bark dyes, and found objects like recycled Styrofoam apple trays, she transforms everyday materials into rhythmic patterns that evoke traditional storytelling (Ngano).

We were treated to a personal tour of her current exhibition, featuring striking monoprints inspired by indigenous palms and the xibelani skirts of Xangana culture. The morning was made even more unforgettable by excellent refreshments and the generous hospitality of our host.

Thank you, Lin Barrie, for inspiring us and opening the door to future creative partnerships! We extend our sincere gratitude and best wishes for her continued success. Her unique and extraordinary work challenges audiences, inspires visitors, and creates a profound sense of emotion, passion, and artistic discovery.🐆🌿

Family Support Room at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital 🤍

On May 15, the Diplomatic Spouses Association (DSA) officially handed over the newly completed Family Support Room at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital. This marks the successful completion of one of our most vital and meaningful projects of the year.

The DSA Executive Committee, hospital management, dedicated staff, and distinguished guests gathered to mark a milestone that will deeply impact families navigating their most challenging moments.

About the Project:
When a child is critically ill, their family experiences immense fear, uncertainty, and emotional strain. True healthcare goes beyond treating an illness—it requires empathy and humanity. Recognizing this, the DSA committed to designing a dedicated, peaceful space where parents and loved ones can find comfort, rest, and support right when they need it most.

A Collaborative Achievement:
This sanctuary was made possible through incredible teamwork and a shared commitment to community well-being. We extend our deepest gratitude to:

🩺 Dr. Lana Austin and the hospital's exceptional pediatric team for their guidance.

💼 Chiro Public Accountants and Auditors, and the CEO of Sofas, Mr. Sidney Chirombo, for partnering with us to bring this vision to life.
It is our sincere hope that this room stands as a lasting symbol of solidarity, providing comfort, strength, and reassurance to families for generations to come.

On May 20th, the Diplomatic Spouses Association (DSA) gathered at the elegant Residence of the Indonesian Ambassador for our Annual General Meeting (AGM). This pivotal meeting allowed us to reflect on a remarkable year of community impact, review our achievements, and celebrate the shared dedication of our members.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our gracious host, Mrs. Judy Prabandari Arief, for opening her beautiful home and ensuring the day flowed seamlessly.

Following the official presentations and reports from our President and Executive Committee Coordinators, our hosts took us on an unforgettable cultural journey through Indonesia. Members enjoyed:
