🐾 Supporting Our Furry Friends: DSA Donation to ZNSPCA

On Saturday, April 18th, the DSA responded to an urgent appeal from the ZNSPCA for food donations. Represented by Mrs. Carola Zardo (Welfare Coordinator) and Mrs. Humaira Qazi (Fundraising Coordinator), we delivered 10 cat food packs and 2 large dog food packs (including Catmor and Bobtail) to the ZNSPCA authorities on Enterprise Road.

The ZNSPCA is Zimbabwe’s main animal protection charity, running kennels and catteries in Harare and other cities. From rescuing abandoned animals to providing medical care and finding loving homes, they rely entirely on the generosity of the public to continue their crucial work.

Following an unfortunate fire at their Charity Shop—their primary source of fundraising—the ZNSPCA has been facing severe shortages in food resources for the animals in their care. The DSA is proud to support them during this challenging time and encourages others to join in their efforts to protect and care for our animal community.

🧘 Raja Yoga & Wellness: We were honored to welcome Mrs. Janita Hargoven, a practitioner of Raja Yoga meditation. She introduced this ancient Indian skill and led the group through a practical demonstration of relaxation exercises. The session concluded with a meditation that left everyone feeling refreshed and centered.

🥘 Culinary Experience: Following the session, members enjoyed the opportunity to socialize while sampling authentic Indian cuisine, known for its rich heritage and distinctive flavors.

ZITF 2026 Diplomats’ Cookout Showcase & DSA Diplomatic Cookbook Promotion🔪

At the ZITF grounds in Bulawayo, in Amai’s Traditional Kitchen Hub, a unique event was held on April 23. The diplomatic community, represented by Ambassadors and spouses, cooked and presented their traditional culinary specialties in collaboration with the Champion of Gastronomy, Her Excellency Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa, who was honored by the UN Tourism organization with the prestigious title of Queen of Gastronomy in Africa.

This event was an excellent promotion of cultural exchange and diversity through food and culinary traditions, fostering mutual respect among participating nations and the host country. By sharing cooking culture, traditional national heritage, and healthy living, the Diplomats' Cookout competition proved again that food speaks a universal language of unity, peace, friendship, and understanding.

The President of the DSA, Mirjana Grujić, served as the lead chef of the Serbian Embassy cooking team. By preparing two Serbian traditional culinary specialties based on recipes from the DSA Cookbook, she promoted the diversity and uniqueness of our organization, which is truly reflected in this "colorful" and "tasteful" culinary book of 103 recipes from 43 nations.

✨ The Grand Opening of Takunda Deaf Art School ✨

On April 9th, the Diplomatic Spouses Association (DSA), led by President Mirjana Grujić, was honored to witness a truly transformative milestone: the Grand Opening of Takunda Deaf Art School in Chitungwiza.

This school is more than just a building; it is a sanctuary of inclusion, creativity, and empowerment. Here, silence is not a limitation—it is a strength that fosters unique expression through art and visual communication. 🎨🤟

We were privileged to celebrate this occasion alongside distinguished guests, including:

Guest of Honor: District Schools Inspector, Dr. Kujeke.

Minister of Arts Sports and Culture Harare Province Head Mrs. Charakupa

Chitungwiza Municipality Town Clerk and Ward Councilor Nyarai Chisango.

The Diplomatic Spouses Association (DSA) is honoured to support a project that promotes inclusion, creativity, and equal learning opportunities for all children. In addition to leading this initiative, DSA has brought together partners and sponsors to further support the school. On this occasion, we were pleased to donate play mats, generously provided by Mr. Gerry Lockflor of Roberts Construction, as well as a basketball from the DSA.

We sincerely thank everyone who contributed to making this vision a reality—our donors, partners, sponsors, teachers, community members, and families. Together, we have not only built a school, but also created hope and new opportunities for many children.

To the dedicated teachers and the courageous parents: thank you for your unwavering belief in these children. And to the learners—your determination and curiosity are our greatest inspiration. 🌟

Together with our donors and sponsors, we aren't just supporting a school; we are building hope and ensuring that every child, regardless of circumstance, has the space to grow, succeed, and shine.

Our members recently spent a truly thought-provoking morning immersed in the rich cultural tapestry of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe. From historical legacies to the cutting edge of contemporary art, it was a journey of discovery and deep reflection.

Here are some highlights of our visit:

A Visionary Welcome: We were honored to be greeted by Executive Director Mr. Raphael Chikukwa, who shared the gallery’s fascinating history and the exciting upgrades currently underway.

Global Stage: The gallery is buzzing with preparation as it gets ready to host the prestigious CIMAM Annual Conference (International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art) this November!

A special thank you to Francesca Marufu from the Education Department for her expert guidance through the current exhibitions.

We explored powerful narratives including:

‘Unburdened’ – A moving reflection in observance of International Men’s Day.

‘Amplifying Affected Voices’ – A collaboration by TIBA, the University of Zimbabwe, and Zvatiri by Option Nyahunzvi.

Thank you to the National Gallery team for guiding us through the journey of Zimbabwean art and its role in sparking vital community conversations through art. 🖌️✨

Empowering Futures: Celebrating Our Newest Graduates! 🌟

A massive congratulations to the eight remarkable young women who received their certificates on March 28th at Ondine’s Kitchen Hub!

This milestone marks the successful completion of one of our projects under the Lynde Francis Trust. Over the course of this intensive program, these students were mentored by five outstanding trainers, mastering a versatile toolkit designed for the modern hospitality and service sectors.

What they’ve achieved:

🍳 International Culinary Skills: Hands-on training in global cooking techniques.

🏠 Professional Housekeeping: Training in high-level standards for formal employment.

🌱 Sustainable Living: Vital community skills including home gardening, recycling, and neighborhood clean-ups.

We were honored to have the DSA represented at the ceremony by our Fundraising Coordinator, Humaira Qazi, Welfare Coordinator, Carola Zardo, and Mrs. Paulina, wife of the Namibian Ambassador.

These graduates are now stepping into the workforce not just with new skills, but with the confidence to uplift their families and the broader community.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026! We can’t wait to see the impact you make. 🥂✨

🏆 Honoring Excellence: DSA President Receives Prestigious Diplomacy Award 🏆

A momentous evening for the Diplomatic Spouse Association! We are incredibly proud to announce that our President, Mrs. Mirjana Grujić, was honored with the award for Outstanding Contribution to Diplomacy at the 2026 Diplomat of the Year Awards gala in Harare.

Under the theme “Diplomacy in Action, Impact in Motion,” the ceremony celebrated those making a tangible difference in our community. While the room was filled with esteemed Ambassadors and international leaders, this recognition highlights the vital role that implementing partners and organizations like the DSA play in building a more humane world.

In her moving acceptance speech, Mrs. Grujić dedicated the award to every DSA member, partner, and donor, stating:

“Only together—through mutual respect and understanding—can we achieve the highest goals and fulfill the most valuable mission entrusted to us... Let us extend our hands to one another and unite our hopes, faith, and abilities in shaping a better, more humane, and more peaceful world.”

🎶 A Celebration of Language & Talent: DSA at Francophonie Week 2026! 🇫🇷
What an extraordinary two days of music, culture, and community! The DSA was honored to be an active partner in the National French and Francophone Song Competition held at the French School in Harare on March 19 and 20.

Under the vibrant spirit of the ZIMFLE programme, over 660 students from 44 schools across Zimbabwe showcased their incredible talent, performing in French with passion and creativity. 🎤✨

The DSA community was proud to support these young stars by providing homemade cookies, biscuits, and refreshments to fuel their performances. It was truly inspiring to see around 1,000 guests—including the First Lady of Zimbabwe, government officials, and the diplomatic community—come together to applaud the hard work and artistic achievements of these students.

We are thrilled to have been part of this massive international platform that promotes the French language and celebrates the rich cultural heritage that connects us all. Congratulations to all the winners who took home prizes donated by our generous sponsors and the DSA! 🏆🍪
