Strong collaboration brings life-saving HIV services closer to communities. On 7 May 2026, we were pleased to host Mr. Phillip Thomas, a U.S. Staff Development Fellow, at our New Start Centre clinic in Harare CBD, together with Josephine E.V. Francisco and Dr. Mutsa Mhangara from the U.S. Embassy in Harare. The visit highlighted U.S. support in strengthening integrated HIV prevention, care, and treatment services while increasing access to quality healthcare for communities across Zimbabwe. Recipients of care also shared powerful reflections on the importance of continued support for accessible, patient-centered care. The New Start Centre offers a one-stop-shop model that integrates clinical, laboratory, and pharmacy services with community outreach, providing efficient, holistic care for diverse populations, including pregnant and breastfeeding women and male clients.

Chief Chinhanga of UMP made it clear today: Chiefs are powerful agents of change against harmful traditional practices.

Speaking at the ongoing Religious and Traditional Leaders Indaba in Mazowe, he stressed the role of traditional leaders in ending GBV and child marriages.

The indaba is charting how community leaders can sustainably drive two critical campaigns:
💜 Love Shouldn't Hurt - ending gender-based violence
📚 Let's Give Her A Chance - ending child marriages

When leaders speak, communities listen.

25th April is World Malaria Day. Did you know?
- The most common symptoms of malaria include:
🦟 fever
🦟 chills
🦟 weakness
🦟 headache and other flu-like symptoms
Get help from a healthcare professional if you experience these symptoms.
- Malaria can be cured if detected early and treated promptly with appropriate medications. If untreated, malaria is a life-threatening disease that can lead to severe illness and death.
- Visit your nearest New Start Centre or clinic for rapid diagnostic testing and treatment if you experience signs and symptoms of Malaria.
- People living with HIV especially those with high viral load or low CD4 count are at increased risk of contracting malaria and experiencing severe form of the disease.
- Malaria can be prevented through simple yet life-saving interventions such as sleeping under insecticide-treated nets, avoiding mosquito bites, mosquito control and using prophylactic medication especially in certain high-risk populations such as pregnant women or when travelling to high-risk areas.

Yesterday, we participated in community health work led by our dedicated Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Clinicians in the neighbourhoods of Old Pumula and Lobengula West.
Together we held small group discussions on HIV prevention, care and treatment. Our CHWs led the way in sharing essential information with their peers about early diagnosis of HIV and the benefits of getting on treatment early. Members of the community learned about HIV products and services including oral and long- acting injectable PrEP and HIV self testing. The excitement was noticeable as we discussed new HIV prevention methods like Lenacapavir - the twice yearly injection! In addition, community members accessed comprehensive services such as HIV testing, PrEP, HIV treatment, TB screening, Cervical Cancer screening as well as screening for hypertension and diabetes.
A big thank you to the Department of State for supporting our New Start Centres and making these services avaliable.
