Last Friday was more than a celebration: it was a 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆.
Ululation, song, and dance filled the air as 𝗫𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘄𝗮 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝟭𝟴, 𝗚𝗼𝗸𝘄𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 officially celebrated achieving 💯% 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 (𝗢𝗗𝗙) 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘀. 🏆🌍 A powerful milestone for health, dignity, and community development.

The celebration united community members, traditional and faith leaders, district government officials, and development partners, all reaffirming one message: (Stop open defecation; use a toilet)

🌱 𝐀𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐌𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐛𝐢𝐳𝐯𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐍𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧 🌱

We are greatly encouraged by the recent Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Zim visit and positive assessment of the MeDRA‑supported Mbizvo Community Nutrition Garden as it progresses towards becoming a fully-fledged 𝐕𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭 (𝐕𝐁𝐔). This recognition affirms the hard work of the community and the shared vision to transform community nutrition gardens from subsistence production into viable commercial enterprises.

𝗔 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝘆. 🚻

That is now becoming a reality at 𝗚𝘄𝗮𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝘅𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘄𝗮 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝟭𝟴, 𝗚𝗼𝗸𝘄𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵.
Through the 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, funded by Brot für die Welt, a 𝟭𝟬-𝙨𝙦𝙪𝙖𝙩-𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙚 𝘽𝙑𝙄𝙋 𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙚 has now been completed at the school.

The new facility includes:
✅ 𝟱 𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝘆𝘀. 𝟱 𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀. 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟮 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀
Before this, the school relied on a few nearly dilapidated toilets with no vent pipes. Today, that story is changing.

📘 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 – School Health Masters & Mistresses have been trained.
👧🏽👦🏽 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 – 6 School Health Clubs have been formed, reaching 120 learners at Gwarusonde and the surrounding schools.
🧼 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 – the Participatory Health and Hygiene Education (PHHE) approach is helping learners and communities take part in healthier decisions and practices.

The takeaway?
Infrastructure matters.
Inclusion matters.
And when sanitation is combined with health education, schools become safer, healthier, and more dignified spaces for every child.
