Remembering Tanaka Chidhakwa
Tanaka Chidhakwa first stepped into service around 2011/2012. He came as a young man with a quiet heart and a deep love for the Lord, and he left an imprint that will stay with us forever.
For more than 5 years, Tanaka served as All Saints Chitungwiza Head Server. He was the first to arrive and the last to leave. He checked the candles, laid out the vestments, and made sure every detail on the altar was in place. But more than that, he looked after people.
If you were new and nervous, Tanaka was the one who stood beside you. He taught with patience, guided with gentleness, and reminded us that serving was about love, not perfection. Under his leadership, the altar team became a family.
If you asked him what he loved most, he would smile.
His favourite position was thurifer.
To Tanaka, carrying the censer was prayer in motion. The steady swing, the rising smoke, the fragrance filling the church it was his way of lifting our worship to God. He never hurried it. Even on the busiest Sundays, he moved with reverence, as if he knew he was carrying more than incense. He was carrying us.
Tanaka served through every season through school, through work, through joy and through struggle. The altar was his home, and service was his joy. He didn’t seek attention. He just wanted everything to be beautiful for the Lord.
Though Tanaka is no longer with us, his spirit remains.
In every server he mentored.
In every Mass where the thurible swings.
In every heart he encouraged to keep serving.
He showed us that faithfulness is found in small, consistent acts of love.
Rest in peace, Tanaka Chidhakwa.
Thank you for over a decade of service.
Thank you for leading us with humility.
We will keep serving, and every time the smoke rises, we will remember you.
"Well done, good and faithful servant."
