*Welfare Trust of Zimbabwe Leads Marondera Clean-Up Campaign*
By Swagah-The Welfare Trust of Zimbabwe yesterday spearheaded a community clean-up campaign at Dombotombo Shops in Marondera, drawing residents, volunteers, and community groups together in a collective effort to promote cleanliness and environmental responsibility. The campaign formed part of Zimbabwe’s broader national clean-up drive, which encourages communities across the country to maintain hygienic surroundings and prevent environmental pollution.
Volunteers, including youths, community health workers, and local residents, gathered early in the morning armed with brooms, refuse bags, and gloves to clear litter and tidy the busy shopping area. Participants were seen sweeping streets, collecting plastic waste, and removing debris around the shops and surrounding areas. The event created a strong sense of unity as people from different backgrounds worked side by side to improve the appearance and health standards of the community.
Organisers from the Welfare Trust of Zimbabwe said the initiative was meant to promote sustainable environmental practices while encouraging residents to take responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean. They also used the opportunity to educate community members about the importance of proper waste disposal and maintaining hygienic public spaces.
Environmental experts note that regular clean-up campaigns play a crucial role in preventing the spread of diseases, reducing pollution, and improving the overall quality of life in urban communities. In growing towns such as Marondera, where population increases often lead to higher levels of waste generation, community-driven efforts like these are considered vital.
Beyond the clean-up exercise, the Welfare Trust of Zimbabwe delegation also visited the newly opened Marondera Rehabilitation Centre. The visit was aimed at strengthening community engagement and learning more about the services offered by the facility, which provides rehabilitation and support services to vulnerable members of society. The visit highlighted the importance of community partnerships in supporting rehabilitation programmes and improving social welfare services in the district.
Local residents who took part in the clean-up campaign welcomed the initiative, saying it helped restore pride in their community while encouraging collective responsibility for environmental protection. Community leaders say initiatives such as the Marondera clean-up campaign are essential not only for improving sanitation within the town but also for contributing to national efforts to build a cleaner and healthier Zimbabwe.
As environmental awareness continues to grow, organisations like the Welfare Trust of Zimbabwe are expected to play a key role in mobilising communities to protect their environment and promote sustainable living.
