Youth Light Zimbabwe is pleased to introduce its new online initiative, The CONSTITUTION Conversation. This project is designed to enhance young people’s knowledge and understanding of the Constitution of Zimbabwe. It is guided by three core objectives:
- Simplifying the Constitution – Breaking down complex constitutional provisions into clear, accessible language that every young person can easily understand.
- Promoting Awareness of Rights and Responsibilities – Ensuring that youth are informed about their constitutionally guaranteed rights, while also fostering an appreciation of their obligations to the nation.
- Encouraging Meaningful Participation – Strengthening youth engagement in community decision-making platforms by nurturing agency, accountability, and active citizenship.

The project will initially be implemented via WhatsApp to maximize accessibility and reach. Expansion to other digital platforms will be considered based on their effectiveness in engaging young people.

Catching them young, and teaching them basic health tips and practices is a step further in creating safe spaces for children. Capacitating them with skills on how they can improve their personal health through simple practices like washing their hands after using the toilet with soap and running water, washing their hands thoroughly before and after eating, ensuring that they eat clean and safe foods etc are activities that can reap effective outcomes at local level. When they understand how to safeguard themselves first, it will not be difficult for them to contribute in advocacy programs as valid stakeholders.

Our Director Mr. Nyagura, represented us at the Green Rising Workshop which was a platform for young people to craft strategies on how to improve Reforestation and Waste Management. The workshop was held at Manna Resorts in Harare from 12-13 November and comprised of young people from different organizations who are making an impact within the climate space. As Youth Light Zimbabwe, we continue to impact and influence climate action through our project A Beep From Nature, and in doing so we prioritize the views and perspectives of young people recognizing them we active, purposeful and relevant stakeholders who are highly capable of catalysing the transformation of waste into an income generating venture and Reforestation into a community culture.

💡Some *YouthLights!*💡
💁🏿‍♂️ In our communities, there's the existence of a catalogue, interwoven and intricately connected web of phenomenas that are are constantly influencing each other in a continuum. Zimbabwe consisting of a youth bulge yet also harboring this web, it strongly implies that all these phenomenas have young people at the center of vulnerability. In recent years *Suicides* have taken root within Zimbabwe's interior, in coherence with *Drug and Substance Abuse*! Now as *Youth Light Zimbabwe* we pondered on these issues for a while and decided to savor more, thus this session.

Mental health, Suicide, Drug and Substance Abuse are inseparable topics that require the appreciation of young people in order to tackle them. We need to use a community based approach to tackling these issues which includes having young people to develop their own critical key competences and programmes that combat drug and substance abuse as well as mental disorders that culminate to suicide. Dear young people, with the resources we have, we need to use them for the greater cause!

Yesterday, Tuesday 05 August 2025, Our Executive Director Mr. Desire E Nyagura represented us at a Workshop for Community Based Organizations that was facilitated by Dialogue and Shelter Organization under the Safe and Inclusive Cities Project.

The workshop was held after the realization that CBOs are engaging in fragmented efforts in their operations leading to less effective programming, thus the agenda was to propel forth a paradigm shift from fragmented action to coordinated impact via youth-led strengthening initiatives that will unify us as CBOs into a consortium. This was grounded in the I-MPA-CI Model (Inclusive Mutual Partnership Community Impact) which guides thematic collaboration around climate action, SRHR , livelihoods and urban safety which resonates with our vision as Youth Light Zimbabwe. From these consolidated efforts, the intent was to signal a new era of collective planning where joint resource mobilization, trust -building, and strategic frameworks enable sustainable youth leadership and advocacy.

The objectives were :-
1. To establish youth consortium thematic identification
2. Develop youth-led action
3. Ensure Partnership Mobilization

As Youth Light Zimbabwe we resonated well with the training as it upheld the 3-lens model that emphasize on accountability, inclusion and community impact. CBOs were urged to transition from being engaged by donors as participants, to being engaged as leaders, and finally to being engaged as partners and as Youth Light Zimbabwe we are happy to have reached the stage at which we are now partners in unleashing effective community impact in Ruwa/ Epworth District in Harare. The intended outcomes of this capacity Building training were to :-

1. Ensure that existing community and youth-led safety platforms and structures have been leveraged and strengthened
2. Ensure that young people have changed harmful social and gender norms and have promoted gender equality and equity at community level.
3. Ensure independence through economic empowerment and promoting decent income through vocational and technical training.

Thank You for the representation

Youth Light Zimbabwe as an association remains committed to advocating for resilient and equitable health services for young people in Zimbabwe. This includes advocacy for effective sexual reproductive health services for youth through responsible media coverage, collaborations and lobbying. It is also crucial for youths to be educated on making healthier and safer sexual decisions and for that to be achieved, there is need for awareness raising among youths and as an association we have been channeling our efforts towards that as well. This requires collaborative effort, this requires realistic and attainable vision and goals, because promoting equitable health is a national need that requires consolidated efforts!
