Hey Gweru residents! 👋 Today we are looking back at a pivotal meeting we held in March 2021 at Mkoba 1, alongside the Gweru City Council (GCC).

Why bring this up today? Because the threat of dubious land barons selling illegal stands on wetlands and riverbanks is still very real in our communities! 🌊🏚️

🔙 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 said back then?

🎙️ GRRA Director Cornilia Selipiwe urged residents to stop falling prey to unscrupulous developers and always demand accountability.

🎙️GCC's Town Planning Engineering Assistant Director, Tapiwa Marerwa, gave the ultimate checklist for buyers: ALWAYS ask for a title deed, valid council allocation letter, and approved survey/engineering diagrams.

The timeless takeaway from that 2021 engagement? If a land developer can't produce verified papers, don't let them trick you into waiting. "Just walk away!"🚶‍♂️💼

📢 GRRA HOSTS ZIMBABWE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION (ZHRC) 📢

Gweru Residents & Ratepayers Association (GRRA) recently convened an important meeting with officials from the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) at the GRRA Offices. 🏛️🤝

This engagement comes as the Commission carries out an ongoing investigation mission in the Midlands Province, focusing on alleged maladministration, governance failures, and service delivery lapses by both the City of Gweru and the Vungu Rural District Council (VRDC). 📋⚠️

As GRRA, our mandate is clear: to safeguard the socio-economic rights of residents and demand transparency, fair administrative justice, and efficient service delivery from local authorities. 💬✊

We appreciate the ZHRC for taking swift action to hear the concerns of ratepayers and residents directly from the ground. We will keep the community updated as the investigation progresses.

Following GRRA’s representation on 4 August regarding unfair fines due to faded parking lines, Gweru City Parking has agreed to act! 🤝

Key updates:
🎨 Repainting of C*D parking bays starts 20 Aug (weather permitting).
🛑 Enforcement officers instructed to exercise discretion in severely faded areas—no unfair penalties!
💬 Mutual commitment to open dialogue for better city order.

At Gweru Residents Ratepayers Association, we firmly believe that dignity, safety, and respect belong in every workplace including the informal sector where so many of our community members earn their living. ✊

We are proud to collaborate with Women in Communities Zimbabwe (WICO) on this vital initiative addressing gender-based violence (GBV) among informal traders. As Alice Tendai Ncube rightly highlighted, workplace GBV in the informal economy often hides in plain sight, normalized and underreported.

Together with WICO, we are drawing the line. Every worker, no matter where they operate, deserves a safe and supportive environment free from harassment and abuse. 🚫✨
