YOUTH VOICES IN THE NATIONAL BUDGET CONVERSATION 🇿🇼🌍💚✅

Last week, our Project OfficerLwandlee Mukwane represented Youth Advocacy for Climate Change (YACC) at the Youth Budget Consultation held at Parliament, creating space for young people to contribute to conversations around Zimbabwe’s national budget and priorities.

During the consultation, she raised the issue of climate mobility and displacement, calling for greater consideration of people and communities who are forced to move as a result of climate shocks such as droughts, floods and other climate-related impacts.

As climate change continues to affect livelihoods, homes, food security and access to essential services, climate mobility must be recognised in planning and budgeting processes. People displaced by climate-related shocks need more than emergency responses ,they need protection, support for relocation where necessary, access to livelihoods and services, and opportunities to rebuild their lives with dignity.

At YACC, we believe that young people must be part of shaping the policies and budgets that respond to the challenges affecting their communities. Climate justice also means ensuring that those most affected by climate change are not left behind.

We continue to advocate for youth-responsive, inclusive and climate-informed policies and budgets that recognise the realities of communities experiencing climate impacts.

As Youth Advocacy for Climate Change (YACC), we are proud to have been part of the 40 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) under the Youth Collective Action for Social Transformation (YCA4SoTra) project. This journey has created space for young people and CSOs to raise their voices, strengthen their advocacy and contribute to solutions that respond to the realities in our communities.

For us at YACC, the journey has reinforced an important lesson: climate action is not only about the environment—it is about people, livelihoods, rights and the future of young people. Through our work, we have continued advocating for climate justice, meaningful youth participation in climate policy and stronger community led responses to climate challenges.

Today, as we join partners for the project closeout, we are taking a moment to celebrate the partnerships built, the knowledge gained, the challenges overcome and the progress made.

Being part of YCA4SoTra has strengthened our conviction that when young people and civil society come together, we can influence conversations, challenge systems and contribute to lasting social transformation.

The project may be closing, but the advocacy continues. We carry forward the lessons, partnerships and momentum as we work towards a more just, inclusive and climate-resilient future.

|Highlights of the Week|

We’re proud to have had our own representing Gwanda and MatabelelandSouth at SARSYC VI in Namibia this week.

Our Programs Officer is part of a 5-person team from the YCA4SOTRA Alliance of 40 CSOs sitting in rooms with youth leaders, researchers, and policymakers from across Southern Africa.

The theme this year: "Align for Action: Sustaining Progress in Youth Health and Education."
For us, that also means climate. Because you can’t talk health and education without talking about the climate crisis hitting our communities first.

This isn’t just about being in the room.
It’s about putting marginalized districts like ours on the map. Bringing back networks, ideas, and partnerships to strengthen youth programs and climate resilience back home.

Highlights of day 1 of the Youth Indaba under the YCA4SOTRA project📌

The National Youth Indaba under the YCA4SOTRA project brings together young people from across Zimbabwe to amplify youth voices, inspire meaningful dialogue, and shape solutions to the challenges affecting our generation. It promotes active youth participation in governance, entrepreneurship, innovation, climate action, digital transformation, and sustainable development.

The Indaba reminds us that young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow we are leaders and changemakers today. Highlights from the Matabeleland South Regional Youth Advocacy and Partnership Indaba .

The Regional Youth Advocacy and Partnership Indaba brought together youth-led organisations under the YCA4Sotra project facilitated by SAYWHAT, WILD, Save the children and funded by the EU, government institutions, local authorities and development partners to strengthen partnerships and promote youth-centred development

Participants also got a chance to review and present the Youth Position Papers developed during District engagements .
