We gathered recently for the Youth Advocacy for Climate Change-YACC National Youth Indaba Program held at the New Ambassador hotel under the project Strengthening Youth Led Associations in Zimbabwe. The project is about building stronger youth organizations, equipping the youth with better governance, financial systems and skills to advocate and mobilize resources.

Our team members, Melisa and Tanya presented on behalf of Shanduko Childcare on health and wellbeing, highlighting the key and crucial problems affecting CBOs and our communities. They also shared the success stories and provided comprehensive recommendations on how to improve our health and wellbeing

On the 24th of June we participated in a community outreach programme conducted in Ward 4, Epworth, in partnership with Médecins Sans Frontières / MSF, Ministry of Health and Child Care , and other community-based organizations including Midlands Aids Caring Organisation, Springs of Life Zimbabwe, and Dunhu Foundation.

The outreach team comprised two (2) SYCC members who worked alongside partner organizations to provide services and support to community members.

The programme had a target of reaching more than 100 beneficiaries within the community.

As an organization, SYCC successfully assisted 60 beneficiaries during the outreach. Through active participation and service delivery, the organization enhanced its visibility within the community and strengthened relationships with both community members and partner organizations.

The outreach contributed to improving access to services while demonstrating SYCC's commitment to community development and collaboration with key stakeholders in addressing community needs.

We as young people deserve to be at the centre of economic empowerment efforts. When youth are actively involved, the solutions developed are more innovative, sustainable and impactful for our communities.

This bootcamp has been an incredible opportunity to deepen our understanding of economic empowerment that is from social accountability and entrepreneurship to leadership and job creation. It has equipped us with valuable knowledge, practical skills and a broader perspective on how we can contribute to positive change.

A heartfelt thank you to the Safe and Inclusive CitiesProject and empowerment and Transformation Trust for creating this platform. Through this experience, young people have been able to exchange ideas, build meaningful connections, learn from one another and strengthen our capacity to become active changemakers in our communities.

The future belongs to young people who are empowered, informed, and ready to lead and this bootcamp is helping make that future a reality.

🎓 Essential Requirements

* Degree in Political Science, Governance, International Development, Community Development, or related field
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in advocacy or policy-related work
* Strong understanding of child rights, public policy, and governance processes
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Experience in research, analysis, and stakeholder engagement
* Ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible content
* Fluency in English and local languages

You will support financial reporting, bookkeeping, and budgeting processes to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial operations across the organisation.

🔑 Key Responsibilities

Process financial transactions accurately and on time

Support reconciliations and maintain financial records

Assist with payroll preparation and reporting requirements

Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports

Support budgeting and financial planning processes

Help improve financial systems, templates, and procedures

🎓 Essential Requirements

Background in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Experience in bookkeeping or financial administration (NGO experience desirable)

Strong Excel and financial software skills

High level of accuracy, organisation, and reliability

Ability to work collaboratively and manage tasks independently

Commitment to the role for at least 12 months
