This week, let's choose action over silence.

Ending gender-based violence is not the responsibility of survivors alone. It requires all of us to create communities where abuse is never excused, harmful attitudes are challenged, and girls and women feel safe to seek support.

Every conversation that challenges victim-blaming, every voice that speaks out against violence and every act of support brings us closer to a society where everyone can live free from fear.

This week, be intentional with your words and actions. Listen without judgment. Speak up against harmful stereotypes. Encourage respect, equality and accountability in your home, workplace, school and community.

Real change begins when we stop asking survivors to explain their experiences and start asking ourselves what we can do to prevent violence.

Together, let's continue changing the conversation and changing lives.

On 29 July 2026, GWEN proudly partnered with Manyame Rural District Council, the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Youth Advocates, Catalyst Foundation and Nhaka Foundation to commemorate the Day of the African Child with schools from across Seke.

This year's commemoration was held under the theme: "Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa."

The celebrations began with a vibrant march from Ziko to Jonasi Primary School, bringing together learners, community leaders, government departments, civil society organisations and community members in a united call to protect children's rights.

Beyond commemorating the day, the event served as a platform to unite against drug and substance abuse and child marriages, while reinforcing every child's right to quality education, clean water, proper sanitation and hygiene and a safe environment in which to learn and thrive.

Together, we can build communities where every child has the opportunity to live, learn and succeed.

Why does Administrative Justice matter?
Because every young person deserves equal, fair, and dignified access to essential public services without discrimination or unnecessary barriers.

Today, GWEN facilitated an Administrative Justice Workshop at the Chitungwiza Publicity Hall, Zengeza 4, for 84 young women and men, equipping them with knowledge of their rights when accessing public services such as birth registration, youth-friendly sexual and reproductive health services, education and other government services.

The Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission unpacked its constitutional mandate, highlighting its role in promoting, protecting, and enforcing human rights in Zimbabwe. Participants also learned what Administrative Justice means, the standards they should expect from public institutions and where they can seek redress when they experience unfair treatment, delays, discrimination or denial of services.

When young people understand their rights, they are empowered to confidently access services and become active citizens who contribute to responsive and inclusive public service delivery.

Together, we are building informed communities where every young person knows their rights.

Why should one person carry the responsibility of caring for an entire household?

This was the question that sparked meaningful conversations on Friday, 24 July, as 50 young women and men gathered at St Mary's Hall, Chitungwiza, for an interactive dialogue on Unpaid Care and Domestic Work (UCDW).

Through engaging discussions, practical activities and a dynamic panel conversation, participants explored how unequal household responsibilities affect education, employment, well-being and gender equality. Together, they identified practical ways to recognise, reduce and redistribute unpaid care work within families and communities.

Creating gender equality starts at home. When we share care responsibilities, we build stronger families, healthier relationships and more resilient communities
Care is everyone's responsibility.

As we begin a new week, let's remember that caring for our families and communities is important, but the responsibility shouldn't fall solely on one person.

Every day, countless girls and women spend hours cooking, cleaning, fetching water, caring for children and supporting their families. While these acts of care are essential, they often go unrecognised and unpaid, limiting opportunities for education, employment, leadership and rest.

This week let's challenge ourselves to create homes and communities where care is recognised, reduced and redistributed.

✔️ Share household responsibilities.
✔️ Support girls to stay in school and pursue their dreams.
✔️ Encourage boys and men to be active partners in caregiving and household tasks.

When care is shared, girls and women have more time to learn, earn, lead and thrive.

Have a purposeful and impactful week ahead!

"Not In My Ward! Not In My Community!" These were the powerful words of Councillor Simbarashe Ngarande of Seke Ward 7 during the Sports Tournament.

Speaking out against gender-based violence, child marriages, and drug abuse, the Councillor emphasized that creating safe communities is a shared responsibility. He called on community members, leaders, parents and young people to stand together, speak out, and take action against harmful practices.

Councillor Ngarande also reaffirmed his commitment to working with the community to prevent and eliminate these challenges, ensuring that Ward 7 becomes a place where girls and young women can grow up safe, empowered and full of opportunity.

I know some of you have been wondering... what happened at our sports tournament at Chitsvedemo Primary School? ⚽🏐🏆

Well, let me bring you up to speed.

What looked like an ordinary sports tournament was actually something much bigger it was a movement for change.

The grounds of Chitsvedemo Primary School came alive with energy as learners from Chitsvedemo Primary School, Madamombe Primary School, Rockstar Bright Daisy School, together with young women and young men from Seke, competed in exciting soccer and netball matches.

Every game was played with passion, teamwork and respect. The winning teams proudly walked away with trophies, medals, balls and well-deserved recognition, but in truth, everyone who participated was a winner.

Beyond the competition, we created a safe space where young people could learn, connect and have honest conversations. We danced together, shared meals, laughed, and spoke openly about issues affecting our communities, including:
✨ Ending child marriage
✨ Preventing gender-based violence
✨ Fighting drug and substance abuse
✨ Building safer schools and communities for every child.

Sport has a unique way of bringing people together. It breaks barriers, builds confidence, strengthens friendships and creates opportunities for conversations that can change lives.

This tournament was held under Not in My Ward campaign because we believe every child deserves to learn, grow and dream in an environment free from violence and harmful practices.

Because sometimes, the most important lessons don't happen in a classroom they happen on the sidelines of a football pitch, in team huddles, and in conversations that give young people the confidence to choose a different future.

Why didn't she leave?

It sounds like a simple question.

But for many survivors of gender-based violence, it carries judgment instead of understanding. The truth is, no one knows what another person has endured.

Behind every survivor is a story that we may never fully see, fear, love, children, financial dependence, threats, isolation, hope that things will get better, and the courage it takes to survive each day.

This campaign was born from one belief:

We need to stop asking why survivors stayed and start asking how we can support them.

Through our "Why Didn't She Leave?" community dialogue, we sat together, listened to one another, challenged harmful beliefs and reflected on the role each of us has in creating safer communities for women and girls.

Some conversations were difficult.
Some moments were emotional.
But every conversation reminded us that change begins when we choose empathy over judgment.

This video is a glimpse of that journey.
