The iconic Budula Festival is expanding its cultural and economic reach by bringing surrounding communities and attracting broader attendance. Clive Stockil is an award-winning conservationist based in the south-eastern Lowveld of Zimbabwe where he lived most of his life with the Tsonga/ Shangani people around the Gonarezhou National Park. He is well known for his contribution in the establishment of the Communal Areas Management Programme for Indigenous Resources commonly known as CAMPFIRE. He believes that this festival is also very instrumental in mobilising young people to appreciate their cultures. The Budula Festival formerly known as the Great Limpopo Cultural Trade Fair, was founded by Hebert Phikela. It is being organised annually by Mahlanga Centre (formerly Centre for Cultural Development Initiative - CCDI).

Traditionally, cultural preservation in the Tsonga society was also done through storytelling. It played a key role in preserving their history, customs and traditions. Folktales known as Tikarengano were very common. However, dress, adornment, music, dance, hut painting etc, were other forms of storytelling used by this group. In this episode, we are focusing on storytelling by the Tsonga people in the south-eastern Lowveld of Zimbabwe. This documentary series is being produced in partnership with Culture Fund under the CreativeACTIONs program supported by the EU Delegation to Zimbabwe.
