Elson Zanamwe is a Zimbabwean domestic tourism explorer, travel storyteller, and founder of Lowveld Trotter, a platform dedicated to promoting the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Zimbabwe's south-eastern Lowveld. Born in Chiredzi in 2002, he attended Chiredzi Government Primary School and Anderson Adventist High School before earning a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. Inspired by his father, he developed a passion for exploring and documenting Zimbabwe's hidden gems, including Gonarezhou National Park, Save Valley Conservancy, Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve, Lake Mteri, and Hlengwe Heritage Centre. Through compelling storytelling, photography, and digital content, he showcases the country's diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Growing up, Elson regularly visited his rural home in Chibwedziva with his parents, experiences that shaped his deep appreciation for Zimbabwe's diverse cultures. His work continues to raise awareness of the tourism potential of the Lowveld while inspiring more people to explore Zimbabwe. His vision is to establish Lowveld Trotter as one of Southern Africa's leading travel storytelling and destination marketing brands.

We were proudly represented in the SoCreative Workshop by our very own Passmore Ndlovu, who equipped creatives in the Lowveld with practical digital marketing skills, demonstrating how to leverage social media, strengthen their personal brands, access international audiences, and monetise their creative work. Masvingo Provincial Arts Manager Helen Mudefi encouraged artists to formalise their careers by registering with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe to unlock professional recognition and industry opportunities. Renowned musician Tariro neGitare of Magitare Africa inspired participants to craft authentic, audience-driven stories that create impact while building sustainable creative enterprises. The workshop also unpacked the Zimbabwe National Film Strategy (2025–2030), outlining its vision to industrialise the country's film and screen sector. Through these sessions, participants gained valuable insights into digital innovation, entrepreneurship, and strategic opportunities shaping Zimbabwe's creative economy.

For generations, Tsonga/Shangani communities lived in beautifully crafted traditional huts with verandahs, decorated with intricate wall art and symbolic patterns. These decorations expressed culture, identity, love, peace, and the values that bound communities together. While many families are now embracing modern housing styles and contemporary trends, they continue to preserve elements of their rich cultural heritage. This episode traces the history of these unique architectural traditions and their enduring significance in Tsonga/Shangani culture.

The Hlengwe Heritage Centre has quickly become a vibrant hub of Hlengwe/Tsonga culture, history, and identity — with a particular focus on the Hlengwe community. Situated on the beautiful Lundze (Runde) River in Xilonga, Hlengweni (Chiredzi) South. The centre has become a vibrant contributor for the preservation and celebration of cultural heritage, warmly welcoming visitors of all backgrounds to learn, connect, and experience the rich traditions of the Hlengwe people. As the Hlengwe Heritage Centre grows, it also advocates for rural tourism — fostering cultural exchange, community development, and sustainable local livelihoods. More than just a heritage site, it's fast becoming the living embodiment of Hlengwe/Tsonga culture, a place where history, tradition, and tourism all come together. Recently, Mike Willson, Bernard Collins and SW Van Der Merwe, all from Limpopo, South Africa, recently embarked on a tour to Zimbabwe with their friends. Upon their arrival in the Lowveld, they were unable to ignore the vibrant splendor of the Hlengwe Heritage Centre, where they paused for a break on their journey to Naivasha Camp.
