TSURO About TSURO

The acronym TSURO stands for Towards Sustainable Use of Resources Organisation. The organisation uses a bottom-up approach in all its operations.

TSURO is a membership driven NGO based in 6 districts in Zimbabwe working to empower smallholder farmers in Sustainable Agriculture and Natural Resources Management, Public Environmental Health as well as Economic Strengthening. We are a community-based organisation in Chimanimani Zimbabwe that focuses on empowering rural communities to engage in sustainable and profitable agriculture based on pro

per natural resource management. TSURO is a private voluntary organisation registered as a Trust under Deed of Trust with the Registrar of Deeds in Harare, Zimbabwe. It was founded to support community-level efforts directed at sustainable development. The organisation has its roots within associations of smallholder farmers established in 2000. In these associations, members form village groups and these affiliate at ward level and then further at district level. TSURO encourages people to use locally available resources, thus making many of the supported development activities affordable and sustainable. Currently TSURO is operating in 21 out of the 23 wards of Chimanimani district and has four major areas of intervention, which are Sustainable Agriculture and Natural Resources Management, Community Health, Community-based Agro-processing, and Marketing, and Community Capacity Development. TSURO employs an evidence-based approach in which the four departments work in an integrated and holistic way. Vision Statement

TSURO aims at empowering the communities of Chimanimani and neighbouring districts to improve their livelihoods and relationships through programmes in the areas of sustainable agriculture, natural resource management, and community health, agro-processing and marketing. In this effort, the TSURO Trust and the TSURO dzeChimanimani Association work with traditional leaders and all stakeholders who share the aim of alleviating poverty and reducing dependency of rural people. The goal of TSURO TRUST is to have self-sustaining, self-driven, food secure and healthy communities throughout TSUROโ€™s operational districts in Zimbabwe.

Community members from ๐‚h๐ขk๐ฎk๐ฐa W๐šr๐ ๐Ÿ0, ๐‚h๐ขm๐šn๐ขm๐šn๐ข recently participated in a Gender and Disability Inclusion Workshop aimed at strengthening understanding of gender equality, disability inclusion, social inclusion and the rights of vulnerable groups. ๐Ÿค

VSO Zimbabwe in partnership with TSURO recently facilitated a workshop which created a platform for a meaningful dialogue on gender, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), disability rights, intersectionality and inclusive community development in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Dev.. Through interactive discussions, role plays and community action planning, participants identified practical solutions to promote equal opportunities, challenge discrimination and ensure that no one is left behind.

The workshop offered participants a complete learning journey across the entire beekeeping value chain, covering:

๐Ÿ“ Selection and siting of suitable apiary locations

Through a blend of classroom learning and hands-on practical demonstrations, participants gained valuable technical knowledge and practical experience to confidently establish and manage successful apiaries. The workshop also strengthened the capacity of extension officers to transfer these skills and knowledge to fellow farmers and communities, contributing to the wider adoption of apiculture as a climate-smart and income-generating enterprise.

๐Ÿ Beyond producing honey, beekeeping plays a vital role in enhancing biodiversity, supporting crop pollination, improving food security and creating sustainable income opportunities for rural households.

This initiative was further complemented by a ๐u๐ญr๐ขt๐ขo๐ง ๐€w๐šr๐žn๐žs๐ฌ ๐r๐จg๐ซa๐ฆm๐ž which targeted ๐Ÿคฑ๐Ÿฟ breastfeeding mothers, ๐Ÿคฐ๐Ÿฟ pregnant women, ๐Ÿ‘ต๐Ÿฟ the elderly and ๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿฟ youths. The sessions emphasized the importance of a 4-s๐ญa๐ซ ๐›a๐ฅa๐งc๐žd d๐ขe๐ญ in promoting healthy living, especially for pregnant and lactating women.
