🌧️ HABAKKUK TRUST COMMUNITY VOICES | THE RAINS HAVE ARRIVED

The rains have arrived in parts of Matabeleland, and our Community Advocay Action Teams are already listening and documenting community experiences.

Between 5 and 6 October 2026, rainfall was reported in:

📍 Umzingwane Wards 3, 4 & 5 – heavy rainfall
📍 Gwanda North Wards 1 & 3 – good to heavy rainfall
📍 Matobo Wards 9, 12 & 15 – light showers to heavy rain
📍 Mangwe Ward 12 – heavy and stormy rainfall
📍 Bubi Ward 19 – very heavy rainfall
📍 Nkayi Ward 5 – rainfall reported
📍 Plumtree – very heavy rainfall

As one community voice put it:

“Kuzalinywa vele ngoba lamanje liyana.” (People will now start planting because it is raining)

🌱 But is the rainy season now settled?

Not necessarily. The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has forecast an erratic onset of the 2026/27 rainfall season, with a greater likelihood of below-normal rainfall during October–December.

For farmers, the message is simple: prepare, observe, plant strategically, conserve moisture and keep monitoring.

Through community monitoring and local-level advocacy, Habakkuk Trust continues to amplify community voices and local evidence to support informed and climate-resilient decision-making.

🌧️ The rains have come. Let us watch, listen, prepare and act wisely.

Habakkuk Trust is partnering with Bubi Rural District Council and the Environmental Management Agency to promote the conservation and sustainable management of wetlands in Bubi.
Wetlands are vital for water security, biodiversity, livelihoods and climate resilience.
Together with communities and local stakeholders, we are working to protect these important ecosystems for present and future generations.

Women interact with the justice system in ways that are often shaped by their social, economic and family circumstances. Their participation as assessors can help bring women’s perspectives and experiences into discussions that influence justice outcomes.

As part of our work to promote inclusive governance and access to justice, Habakkuk Trust is advocating for greater participation of women in traditional justice systems.

We are advocating for the inclusion of women as assessors in traditional courts, recognising that women’s voices and perspectives are essential to fair, inclusive and responsive justice outcomes.

By strengthening women’s participation in traditional justice processes, we are contributing to more inclusive institutions, greater accountability and improved justice outcomes for women and communities.

Highlights from the Bubi District Business Expo and Agricultural Show, held today at Inyathi Training Centre.

We are at the Bubi Business Expo today, showcasing Habakkuk Trust’s work in advancing Local Inclusive Development (LID) and supporting communities to participate meaningfully in local development processes.
The Expo brings together SMEs, community and women’s groups, NGOs, development partners, government institutions and other stakeholders to showcase initiatives, share knowledge, build networks and strengthen collaboration for the development of Bubi District.
Under the theme “Resilient and Gainful Enterprises Towards Vision 2030: Our Collective Responsibility,” the Expo calls for collective action towards sustainable and inclusive social and economic development.
