Strong families are the foundation of safe and thriving communities.

Today, Emthonjeni Women's Forum joins stakeholders in Lupane to commemorate International Day of Families national launch reflecting on the important role families play in preventing and responding to Gender-Based Violence (GBV). When homes are built on respect, equality, positive parenting, and open communication, women, girls, men, and boys are empowered to live free from violence.

As we celebrate families, we also reaffirm our commitment to strengthening family and community structures that protect rights, promote gender equality, and break the cycle of GBV.

Through the P.O.W.E.R Project, Emthonjeni Women’s Forum is capacitating GBV Committees, local leaders, and key stakeholders in Cowdray Park on Zimbabwe’s Marriage Act and other GBV related laws, strengthening community knowledge on rights, protection, and justice.

EWF is equipping communities with legal knowledge and practical response mechanisms to build safer spaces where harmful practices are challenged and survivors are supported.

Partnerships remain key in advancing gender equality and ending GBV. Together, we can create lasting change.

Through the Self-Help Group (SHG) approach, Emthonjeni Women’s Forum is transforming the lives of women and strengthening communities.

EWF has supported the formation and growth of women-led SHGs that are creating sustainable livelihoods, improving household incomes, and building collective community support systems. Through savings, internal lending, and income-generating initiatives, women are gaining financial independence, restoring dignity, and increasing their participation in community leadership and decision-making processes.

The SHG platform has become a safe space for women to discuss gender equality, challenge harmful social norms, and collectively address gender-based violence within their communities. As women become economically empowered and socially connected, communities are witnessing stronger protection systems, increased awareness on GBV prevention, and greater community action towards safeguarding women and girls.

At EWF, we believe that empowered women are central to building resilient, violence-free communities. Through the SHG approach, we are strengthening livelihoods, driving social change and advancing the fight for gender equality and justice.

Faith spaces have the power to heal, protect, and transform communities.

Emthonjeni Women’s Forum in partnership with faith spaces in Insiza is training church-based GBV committees to effectively advocate against gender-based violence and respond to survivors with the right skills, knowledge, and compassion.

The trainings are strengthening understanding on:
▪️ Survivor-centred approaches
▪️ Safe and ethical responses to GBV
▪️ Referral pathways and support systems
▪️ Prevention through community and faith leadership

Ending GBV is everyone’s responsibility. It takes all of us churches, families, communities, men, women, and young people to speak out, challenge harmful norms, and create safe spaces for survivors.

EWF is open to partnerships with churches and faith-based organisations committed to building communities free from violence and grounded in equality, dignity, and justice.

Together, faith can be a force for protection and change.

Real change in begins when men are part of the conversation.

EWF through male engagement sessions in mining communities,is creating safe spaces for men to unpack harmful social norms, reflect on power dynamics, and understand how gender-based violence (GBV) affects families, communities, workplace productivity, team cohesion, and economic growth.

The interactive sessions on GBV prevention combined self-care and wellness activities, where participants engage in reflections designed to challenge unequal power relations, promote healthy masculinities, and encourage balance, respect, and shared responsibility.

EWF is helping build safer, more productive workplaces and communities.

EWF continues to welcome partnerships and collaborations with mining companies, development partners, and organisations committed to advancing gender equality, worker wellness, and violence-free workplaces.

This May, we also reflect on workers’ wellbeing, it’s critical to recognise that mental wellness is not separate from productivity - it is central to it. Stress, burnout, workplace harassment, and personal challenges continue to affect employees across sectors, reducing morale, performance, and overall organisational growth.

In a rapidly changing work environment, organisations must move beyond awareness and invest in practical solutions. Training company-based counsellors within departments is an approach that ensures timely support, builds trust, and fosters healthier, more resilient teams.

Emthonjeni Women’s Forum (EWF) is supporting organisations to take this step by offering tailored training programmes that equip staff with the skills to provide basic psychosocial support, promote safe workplace cultures, and respond effectively to mental health challenges.

A productive workplace starts with a supported workforce.

This May we are driving change in the workplace, through advocacy, training, and policy development , we help organisations build environments that are safe, and free from sexual harassment and exploitation.

EWF is building women workers capacity to know their rights and is supporting employers to gender sensitive and improve workplace environment by ensuring that workplace policies align with the Labour Amendment Act [Chapter 28:06] ILO Convention 190.

Partner with us to strengthen your workplace policies, train your teams on gender equality and sexual harassment. A safe workplace is not just compliance it’s smart business.

Together, we can end workplace harassment and build inclusive spaces where everyone thrives.

Today, 1 May, we join in commemorating Workers’ Day under the theme: “Constitutionalism, Social Justice: Workers Unite for Decent Work and Economic Empowerment.”

This day reminds us that fair labour practices, dignity at work, and equal economic opportunities are not privileges they are rights. It is a call to continue advocating for decent working conditions, living wages, and inclusive economic systems that uplift every worker.

When workers are protected and empowered, they are better positioned to contribute to national development and break cycles of poverty and inequality.
