Bees are critical species in the ecosystem. We received this picture via an open WhatsApp group. There was no associated attribution data, but the graphic contains important information about bees and their ecology that we feel is important to share.

Do you live in an urban area and want something to do this weekend? Join the iNaturalist City Nature Challenge 2026 (24 - 27 April) and record the biodiversity in your urban spaces. All you need is a camera (your phone camera is a perfect start), the iNaturalist App and some observation skills. Citizen scientist contributions have revolutionised scientists' understanding of animal, plant and fungi distributions. Let's put Zim on the map - follow the link for more details!

What might have been a blue Monday turned out to be quite sparkly for Dambari when we were awarded the Wildlife and Environment Zimbabwe Matabeleland Ted Hyson Wildlife Trophy 2025. It is annual award presented by WEZ to individuals or groups demonstrating exceptional dedication to Wildlife Conservation.
Thank you WEZ for recognising our ongoing work in the Matobo Hills World Heritage Site.

It is interesting to see how wild animals respond to novelty in their environment. This stunning male kudu noticed the camera trap (which has been at this site for an extended period but was perhaps new to him) and approached it very carefully. You can see his muscles bunched, ready to flee should it turn out to be something dangerous! This alertness is what keeps animals alive in an unpredictable environment. (4 consecutive video clips spliced together).

With the Winter Olympics starting soon, we thought a themed video clip would be appropriate this week.
A dozen warthogs passing by in 10 seconds, avoiding obstacles (and each other) on a winding path. Is this a training run for the bush slalom? The enthusiasm of the piglets should bring a smile to your face!

We set some of our camera traps to record video, to gather additional information that static shots can't always capture. This sequence of several stitched videos shows interaction between (we believe) a courting pair of leopards, serenaded by cicadas. Watch to the end for a show of strength and flexibility!

Today is World Photography Day!
It's time to celebrate the magical ability to capture and record a moment forever! We are privileged to live in an age where we can take digital photos, share them widely, and enjoy them well into the future.
Whether you use your phone, a film camera or a high-spec digital camera, we hope you have a chance to appreciate some wildlife today, and maybe even get to take a few photos. If you're not able to venture out, take the opportunity to look back through photos you have taken, to reconnect with the moment!
