Our team has been hard at work constructing raised garden beds at our Innovation Hub, which is currently undergoing renovations as part of the establishment of our Disability Inclusive Gardens.

These raised beds will form part of our Nutri Garden, creating an accessible and inclusive space where people with disabilities, youth, and the wider community can learn, grow nutritious food, and embrace climate-smart agricultural practices.

This is more than just a garden—it's an investment in inclusion, sustainability, food security, and community empowerment.

This initiative is proudly supported by Hivos, whose commitment to inclusive and sustainable development is helping us create opportunities where everyone can grow and thrive.

Stay tuned as we continue transforming our hub into a vibrant space for learning, innovation, and inclusive agriculture. 🌿💚

Last week, our Urban Futures teams from Bulawayo and Mutare came together for a Training of Trainers (ToT) facilitated by Impact Hub under the Urban Futures Programme.

The training provided a valuable platform to reflect on the progress of our Innovation Hubs, share experiences, and collectively envision what an ideal, community-driven innovation hub should look like. Key discussions focused on governance structures, leadership, effective team management, and strategies for ensuring the long-term sustainability of the hubs beyond project funding.

Together, we explored practical approaches to developing income-generating initiatives, strengthening institutional capacity, and creating resilient innovation spaces that will continue to empower young people and communities for years to come.

We appreciate Impact Hub for facilitating this insightful learning experience and remain committed to building sustainable, inclusive, and impactful Innovation Hubs that drive positive change.

Standing Together, Restoring Hope

Today, we had the privilege of donating essential items to the UCCSA Church in Njube in support of returnees from South Africa.

In times of need, acts of kindness and compassion remind us of the power of community and the importance of standing together. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute towards bringing hope, comfort, and dignity to those rebuilding their lives.

Together, we can continue to make a positive impact by supporting one another and creating stronger, more caring communities.

Together for a Drug-Free Community!

The Unemployed and Vulnerable Foundation was honoured to participate in a two-day Drug and Substance Abuse Workshop convened by the DSD Office in Tsholotsho, bringing together members of the Drug and Substance Abuse Task Force and various key stakeholders.

The workshop was highly informative and enlightening. We gained a deeper understanding of the most commonly abused substances, the growing challenge of drug and substance abuse in Zimbabwe, the structures and committees established to address the crisis, and the behavioural signs associated with substance abuse. We also explored pathways for seeking help and supporting affected individuals and their families.

A major highlight of the workshop was the development of a practical workplan to guide the Task Force's efforts in preventing substance abuse, raising awareness, and strengthening community interventions.

Drug and substance abuse remains a pressing concern that requires collective action. We appreciate the Department of Social Development for creating this platform for learning, collaboration, and planning. Together, we can build healthier, safer, and more resilient communities.

Proud moment for Urban Futures Youth Championships! Last week our team participated in the Make AI Work for You workshop supported by Hivos Hosted by YIT. The training was hands-on and practical, designed to equip young people with digital skills that matter in today’s workplace. We explored Artificial Intelligence tools and learned how to use them for faster research, clearer communication, creative content creation, and overall efficiency in our enterprises. It was an eye-opening experience that showed us how AI can save time, improve ideas, and help our businesses grow. We’re leaving the workshop more confident and ready to apply these skills in our daily work.

What an incredible weekend! As Urban Futures , supported by Hivos Regional Office Southern Africa we were honored to participate in the 2026 Amagugu Food Festival — a powerful celebration of our culture, heritage, and indigenous foods.

This year’s festival was a major highlight for our project. We’re proud to share that we recorded a significant increase in the number of young people engaging in healthy food campaigns and developing innovations around traditional foods. From farm to plate, our youth are reimagining heritage ingredients, creating nutritious recipes, and sparking conversations about food sovereignty and wellness in our communities.

The energy was unmatched: youth-led cooking demos, conversations on nutrition, and fresh ideas on how to make our traditional foods more accessible and appealing to the next generation. This is what the future looks like — young people taking ownership of their health while honoring where we come from.

A huge thank you to the Amagugu Food Festival organizers, our partners, mentos and every young person who showed up with passion and purpose. You are proof that culture and innovation can grow from the same soil.

Here’s to nourishing our bodies, protecting our heritage, and building healthier futures together. 💚
