Mbira Tours and Safaris Joins the Presidential Clean-Up Campaign
“Tourism That Takes Care”
Bulawayo, Zimbabwe | JULY 2026
Mbira Tours and Safaris has committed to playing an active role in Zimbabwe’s
Presidential Clean-Up Campaign, which takes place every first Friday of the month. As a company rooted in showcasing Zimbabwe’s beauty to the world, Mbira Tours says protecting that beauty starts at home.
The Presidential Clean-Up Campaign was launched to make Zimbabwe clean, safe, and litter-free by 2030. Every first Friday, government, businesses, schools, and citizens come together to clear waste from streets, markets, rivers, and tourist sites.
Why Mbira Tours is Involved
“Tourism and cleanliness go hand in hand,” said a Mbira Tours and Safaris spokesperson. “Visitors come to Zimbabwe for our wildlife, our heritage sites, and our warm people. A clean environment is the first impression we give. If we want more tourists, we must keep our country clean.”
As a tour and safari operator, Mbira Tours and Safaris sees itself as a custodian of Zimbabwe’s natural and cultural spaces. From the streets of Bulawayo to destinations like Matopos and Great Zimbabwe, the company is now mobilizing staff, guides, and clients to take part.
What Mbira Tours is Doing
1. Monthly Staff Clean-Ups: Every first Friday, Mbira Tours staff will join clean-up teams in Bulawayo and at key tourism routes.
2. Tourist Awareness: Safari and tour guides will include a “Leave No Trace” message on all trips, encouraging visitors to keep sites clean.
3. Partnerships: The company is working with local communities and councils to support clean-up efforts at transit points like bus ranks and marketplaces where tourists pass through.
4. Leading by Example: All Mbira Tours vehicles and camps will operate a zero-litter policy, with bins provided and waste responsibly disposed of.
A Call to the Tourism Sector
Mbira Tours and Safaris is calling on other operators, lodges, hotels, and travel businesses to join the campaign. “If every tourism company adopted one street, one site, or one Friday a month, Zimbabwe would transform quickly,” the company said.
The next Presidential Clean-Up Day is the first Friday of next month. Mbira Tours and Safaris invites its clients, partners, and the public to join them.
