Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures!

This year’s World Health Day theme directly correlates with our objective of addressing the intergenerational transmission of anaemia. Reducing maternal mortality cannot be adequately discussed without acknowledging anaemia as a significant contributor to maternal morbidity.

As the Whole Woman Movement, we take this opportunity to recommit to decreasing the prevalence of anaemia among adolescent girls and young women, particularly in socioeconomically disadvantaged populations.

We invite all relevant stakeholders to collaborate with us to implement targeted strategies focused on improving iron levels and overall health outcomes for this demographic.

Our collective efforts can forge a hopeful future for these adolescent girls and young women.

What happens when you cannot afford iron supplements?

One way to increase your iron status is by taking iron supplements. However, these are only readily available during prenatal care, making them inaccessible to nonpregnant . Not only that, the most commonly known iron-rich foods are usually the expensive exotic foods making it hard for in low-income areas to sustain an iron-rich diet.

Given the current harsh and conditions, it is high time we educate , and on the different Indigenous iron-rich food alternatives. These are cheaper, adapts easily, and are usually part of our traditional foods.

Let us start with you, which indigenous food do you know is rich in ?

As confusing as Adolescence is to most Adolescent girls, imagine adding life altering Iron Deficiency to it? This might sound easy/normal until you read Patience's lived expérience story as she shares on the different events that led to her IDA diagnosis at the age of 12 years.

It is high time more people join the IDA movement as we not only raise on but go a step further to engaging everyone.
