This July, let's unite to reduce plastic pollution and build a cleaner, healthier Bulawayo for everyone.

Every plastic bag refused, every reusable bottle carried, and every piece of plastic recycled makes a difference. Together, we can protect our environment, safeguard public health, and leave a better future for generations to come.

Join the Mafakela Health and Environment Taskforce (MHETF) in promoting sustainable living by:
✅ Refusing single-use plastics.
✅ Reusing bags, bottles, and containers.
✅ Recycling plastic waste responsibly.
✅ Participating in community clean-up campaigns.
✅ Educating others on proper waste management.

Small actions. Big impact.

Let's choose to be part of the solution—not the pollution.

🌱 Refuse. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Restore.
Together, we can make Plastic Free July a lasting lifestyle, not just a one-month campaign.

Yesterday's clean-up exercise in New Luveve was a great success as volunteers came together to clear several illegal dumpsites and restore cleanliness in the community.

While we celebrate this achievement, we are concerned by the noticeable increase in illegal dumping compared to our previous visit. Household waste, including diapers, food waste, and other refuse, continues to be discarded in undesignated areas, posing serious health and environmental risks.

During the clean-up, some of the waste was traced back to those responsible, highlighting the need for greater accountability. More importantly, it underscores the urgent need to strengthen community education on proper waste disposal, waste separation, and environmental responsibility.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the community leaders, businesses around Mutamburi Business Centre, residents, and all volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to making yesterday's exercise a success.

Together, we can change mindsets, protect our environment, and build cleaner, healthier communities.

Below are empty boxes of Benylin with Codeine (21) that were recovered this morning from a dumpsite in the Mafakela area.

Such quantities are clearly not consistent with normal medicinal use and point to the growing challenge of substance abuse within our communities.

Behind every discarded box is a reminder of the devastating impact that drug and substance abuse is having on our young people, families, and communities.

📢 A generation is being slowly but surely destroyed.

As a community, we cannot afford to remain silent. Parents, guardians, community leaders, schools, churches, and residents all have a role to play in raising awareness, supporting vulnerable individuals, and protecting our youth from the dangers of drug abuse.

Together, let us build communities that are clean, safe, healthy, and free from substance abuse.
