Yesterday, a team of dedicated volunteers came together to assist at the home of a vulnerable resident whose property had become heavily overgrown with grass, shrubs, and trees, posing health, safety, and environmental concerns for both the household and surrounding community.

Our brave volunteers worked tirelessly to slash grass, clear shrubs, trim trees, and remove litter from the premises. During the clean-up, various waste materials were recovered, including discarded containers, used condoms, and other litter that had accumulated over time.

The intervention not only restored cleanliness and dignity to the property but also helped address a space that had become a source of concern for residents.

πŸ‘ A special word of appreciation goes to the men who stepped forward and took on this challenging task with courage, compassion, and a strong sense of community responsibility. Your efforts demonstrate the power of collective action and the importance of looking out for one another.

Together, we are building safer, cleaner, and healthier communities for all.

As part of the World Environment Day 2026 and the National Clean-Up Day observed on the first Friday of every month, learners and staff from Mafakela Primary School took part in a clean-up exercise aimed at promoting environmental responsibility and maintaining a clean learning environment.

The initiative demonstrates the school's commitment to environmental stewardship and the important role that young people play in protecting our environment.

πŸ‘ We applaud the learners, teachers, and the Environmental Club for leading by example and instilling a culture of cleanliness and environmental awareness.

Together, we are raising a generation that understands the importance of caring for our environment and building sustainable communities.

Today, Ward 16 came together in a powerful demonstration of community spirit as more than 60 participants joined our National Clean-Up Day commemorations.

The clean-up was attended by our local Councillor, residents' leadership, vendors, community groups, residents, and other stakeholders, all united by a common goal of creating a cleaner and healthier environment.

πŸ‘ A special word of appreciation goes to the business community for their generous support, which contributed greatly to the success of the event.

As we celebrated World Environment Day, today's turnout and commitment showed that environmental stewardship is everyone's responsibility.

Together, we are building cleaner communities, protecting our environment, and inspiring positive change.

Today, MHETF had the privilege of hosting officials from the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) during a monitoring visit of the Separation at Source Project currently being implemented in Ward 16 (Luveve and Gwabalanda).

The visit commenced at Mafakela Primary School, where EMA officials and MHETF members toured the school's waste collection cage, the tree nursery established in May last year, and the trees planted within the school grounds by members of the Environmental Club.

The delegation then proceeded to assess progress on the Separation at Source initiative, which seeks to promote responsible waste management and recycling at household and community level.

We appreciate EMA's continued support, guidance, and commitment to strengthening community-led environmental initiatives.

Together, we are building cleaner, greener, and more sustainable communities. πŸ’š
