As we commemorate 46 years of Independence in Zimbabwe, ACBOs calls for the protection of civic space, meaningful citizen participation, and the upholding of constitutional rights for all. Independence must be lived through systems that ensure dignity, equality, and justice.

On behalf of the Alliance for Community Based Organisations (ACBOs), we are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Gift Muponda, who was the Finance Manager at the Centre for Applied Legal Research(CALR), on Friday the 3rd of April.

We remember Mr. Muponda as a dedicated professional whose commitment, integrity, and support greatly contributed to the work we carried out together. His role in strengthening our partnership was invaluable, and his contribution to advancing our shared goals will not be forgotten. He was not only a colleague but a dependable partner whose work made a lasting impact on the communities we serve.

During this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. May you find comfort in the legacy he leaves behind and the many lives he touched through his work.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Your voice matters now more than ever.

Communities across Zimbabwe have spoken clearly: the proposed Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3 raises serious concerns about representation, accountability, gender equality, and the protection of key democratic institutions. From reduced public participation in electing leaders to the weakening of independent commissions, these changes go to the heart of people’s rights and freedoms.

Public consultations are your opportunity to be heard. This is the moment to engage, ask questions, and shape the future of our Constitution.

Be informed. Show up. Speak out.

Environmental justice is gender justice. When ecosystems are destroyed, women pay the highest price. It’s time to put communities especially women at the center of sustainable mining.

Support Green Institute’s Fundraising Campaign!

Green Institute a youth-led organization based in Chipinge, Manicaland Province, is calling on supporters to help rebuild its Community Agriculture Hub which was destroyed by Cyclone Gezani- through a fundraising campaign hosted by the New Africa Fund. The campaign runs for 30 days, from 1–30 March 2026, with up to $5,000 USD in matching funds available, doubling the impact of every donation.

Heavy rains triggered by Cyclone Gezani, which struck Mozambique’s Inhambane coast, caused severe destruction in Chipinge, flattening maize fields and putting harvests and rural families at risk. The Community Agriculture Hub, including its 500m² greenhouse and solar water system, was destroyed. This garden supports 85 members, mostly women, and provides 83 households with safe, clean water, making it essential for livelihoods and community resilience.

Before the storm, the greenhouse was transforming lives. Women were planting tomatoes, hoping to sell them at the market to pay school fees for their children. The destruction threatens this progress but together, we can help restore it.

Every dollar donated will be matched by the New Africa Fund, doubling the impact of your generosity. Your support will help rebuild the hub and continue empowering marginalized groups, including women, youth, children, and persons with disabilities, through climate-resilient strategies and sustainable livelihoods.
