Chiedza Mental Health and Art Therapy Project

Chiedza Mental Health and Art Therapy Project The Chiedza Vision for Change strategy incorporates the ‘recovery perspective’ into the develop This team will also work closely with the research team.

Introduction
Given full support, the below mentioned are the programs set to be run by cmhatp. Some of the programs will require the final construction and the rest will start up with the availability of the first grant. The Chiedza Outreach& motivational team
This team’s main objective is to explore, develop and implement various strategies in giving motivation or a sense of self to everyone acro

ss the nation. Emphasis is going to be on the very young and school going ages. This is based on the psychosexual theory and the psychosocial theories in the causation of behavioural problems as well as mental illness. These theories emphasise on behaviour being a learnt process of which a great deal of this learning takes place during the child hood ages. I believe that the greatest weapon the nation can use to address behavioural problems which in turn lead to a countless number of problems, is to ensure positive leaning in children. This is achievable through goal directed motivational health education. The Chiedza team of will come up with instruments which will ensure this is achievable and follow up audits will be done regularly. Team members

Chiedza Adult substance abuse services
Chiedza Mental health centre will work with some of the Countries’ leading addictionologists and certified chemical dependency counsellors to deliver the most effective and dynamic treatments. Program philosophy
Chiedza Behavioural Health Services will offer a full range of treatment options for adults over the age of 18 who are struggling with chemical dependency issues. Our programs are designed to address individual needs to minimize relapse and maximize one's ability to live without the use of addicting drugs. We will use addictionologists and certified chemical dependency counsellors who are trained in the newest treatment techniques. We believe that behaviour is a learnt process therefore it can be unlearnt and recovery begins with the desire to change along with the provision of an appropriate environment. Our philosophy is that anyone who wants to change can change with an appropriate recovery program. Through a comprehensive assessment, we will have clinicians who can match the person's needs and level of motivation with an effective treatment intervention. We will place patients in the most appropriate level of care. Inpatient services are often used to initiate recovery when medical detoxification is warranted. Partial hospital programming and other outpatient services will offer intensive treatment alternatives that enable individuals to remain active in their lives. At Chiedza Mental Health Centre is being specifically designed to help individuals through times of extreme fear, severe depression and anxiety. More than just a matter of prompting people how to "weather the storm," this intense program will teach powerful, practical ways to respond effectively to any type of emotional distress, especially major crises, such as the loss of a job, health or relationship. This program intends to use "behavioural activation," a research-supported therapy that views depression as a painful, life-disrupting experience that makes sense within the context of a person's life. A major focus of behavioural activation is on educating patients about the role of avoidance in depression and the ways that people naturally resort to it to escape stressful events and depressed feelings. Common avoidance behaviours may include staying in bed and withdrawing from friends, exercise or other normal routines. Avoidance as a persistent, long-term strategy for coping with depression keeps the problem going as it tends to block addressing important life problems, limits one's contact with antidepressant experiences, and leads to additional problems, such as bill collection notices, unintended weight gain and loneliness. These, in turn, can become new sources of depression. A major goal of this treatment is to help people re-engage in their lives by breaking patterns of avoidance that are maintaining or worsening depression. Through Art Therapy we will collaborate with patients to identify personally meaningful activities, and then strategize with them to find ways to initiate engagement in those experiences regardless of their mood. We focus on what actions need to be taken to address important life problems, as well as on those activities that might provide a sense of meaning, enjoyment or accomplishment. We will emphasize what they need to do to help manage their lives more effectively, even when this means doing things that might not be enjoyable, such as paying bills, working on taxes or tending to housework – things that are frequently avoided when people feel depressed. Activation in these important areas is what puts people back into greater contact with antidepressant experiences to help them overcome depression over time. During Intensive Outpatient Program group sessions, which will meet three times a week for three hours, participants identify and share meaningful short-term goals. Making goals public within the group enhances commitment to activate oneself and creates accountability. Participants then report their progress the following session, gaining a sense of accomplishment from what they have done, as well as encouragement and motivation from the group. There is something very powerful about taking action in small and gradual ways to begin to reverse the cycle of depression and avoidance. It may sound like a simple idea, but the reality of it is that it is far from easy. I think the reader understands how difficult it is to start to become active again when you've been depressed. Therapeutic strategies are needed to make it happen. The Intensive Outpatient Program features components of other research-supported treatments, such as dialectical behaviour therapy and exposure therapy, which can be helpful in treating additional clinical conditions besides depression. For example, distress tolerance skills derived from dialectical behaviour therapy can enhance coping for those individuals who have difficulty experiencing emotional distress without responding in an impulsive or even self-destructive manner, which tends to make highly stressful situations worse. Who is the program for? The Intensive Outpatient Program will provide an alternative for individuals in need of longer and more frequent treatment sessions than can be provided with once-a-week individual outpatient therapy. The program is especially helpful for those struggling with severe depression or anxiety and who are using impulsive or avoidant coping strategies. Setting a multidisciplinary Team
