MEMBER SPOTLIGHT | GODSON FORTUNE ABBEY

Today, we shine the spotlight on Godson Fortune Abbey, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Copperbelt University in Kitwe and a dedicated member of the Rotary Club of Kitwe.

Godson’s professional journey is rooted in research, teaching, mentorship, and the pursuit of knowledge. Through his work in academia, he contributes to shaping ideas, developing talent, and empowering young minds to think critically, dream boldly, and use education as a tool for positive change.

As a Rotarian, Godson brings the same passion and commitment to service. His dedication to humanity reflects the true spirit of Rotary using one’s skills, time, and influence to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

His passion for learning, service, and community impact makes him a valued member of the Rotary Club of Kitwe and a strong example of Service Above Self.

And if there is one thing you can always expect from Abbey, it is the truth. Thoughtful, honest, and unwavering in his principles, he is someone who values integrity and believes that truth is the foundation of both leadership and service. We are proud to have him as part of the Rotary Club of Kitwe family.

Meet Bertha Nenga Chama
Warm, driven, and deeply committed to service Bertha is one of those people who quietly gets things done and brings others along with her.

An entrepreneur at heart, she is the founder of Bernen Construction Zambia Limited, a firm focused on project management, construction, and supply services. For Bertha, it’s not just about building structures it’s about contributing to real development and creating something that lasts.

Bertha joined the Rotary Club of Kitwe in March 2022, and in just a short time, she has taken on different roles with dedication and grace. This year, she has been serving as Club Secretary, helping to keep the club organised and moving forward.

She is currently President-Elect and will serve as Club President for the 2026–2027 Rotary year a journey that reflects both her growth and the trust the club has in her leadership.

What stands out about Bertha is her heart for people. She believes in showing up, in working together, and in making a difference where it truly matters. The Rotary theme “Unite for Good” resonates deeply with her, because she understands that the most meaningful change happens when we come together.

For her, Rotary is more than meetings and projects it’s a space to give back, connect, and be part of something that creates lasting impact.

💙 “Rotary allows me to give back to the community and be part of creating real, positive change.” She said.

Let’s celebrate Bertha, her journey, her leadership, and her unwavering commitment to service.

MINISTRY OF HEALTH LAUNCHES POLIO IMMUNISATION CAMPAIGN

The Zambian Government, through the Ministry of Health, yesterday launched a nationwide polio vaccination campaign targeting 3.7 million children under the age of five.

The campaign, which is running from 20th to 23rd April 2026, follows the detection of a variant type 2 poliovirus in Lusaka and will cover six provinces namely Lusaka, Central, Eastern, Muchinga, Southern, and Western.

Polio remains a highly contagious but preventable disease, and this campaign is a critical step in protecting children and preventing further spread of the virus.

The Rotary Club of Kitwe joins the Ministry of Health and its partners, including the World Health Organization and UNICEF, in urging all parents and guardians to ensure that every eligible child under the age of five is vaccinated during this period.

As Rotarians, we remain committed to the global effort to eradicate polio and continue to support initiatives such as End Polio Now.

Let us all play our part in protecting our children and keeping our communities polio-free.

Meet Rotarian Ram Kumar… a committed Rotarian whose quiet consistency and strong values continue to shape the spirit of the Rotary Club of Kitwe.

A trader by profession with his office based in Kitwe, Ram has been a proud Rotarian since 2018. Over the years, he has served diligently as Director of the Membership Committee for three years, playing a key role in strengthening the club’s growth and cohesion.

Ram describes himself simply as a Rotarian a reflection of how deeply he identifies with the values and mission of Rotary. He holds immense respect and admiration for Zambians and embraces the diversity and warmth of the community he serves. A strict vegetarian, he particularly enjoys the fellowship that comes with being part of Rotary, valuing the connections built through shared purpose.

What sets Ram apart is his approach to service. He is not a passive member. He attends meetings consistently, contributes ideas, takes on responsibilities, and actively supports the goals of the club. Whether it is welcoming new members, guiding them through orientation, or arranging their induction, Ram takes leadership seriously and leads with intention.

Grounded in the principles of the Rotary Four-Way Test, truth, fairness, goodwill, and benefit to all. Ram ensures that both his personal and professional life reflect the ethical standards Rotary stands for.

He is equally passionate about Rotary’s global impact, supporting initiatives such as the End Polio Now campaign, as well as healthcare-focused projects including blood donation drives and eye care programmes.

For Ram, networking goes beyond business. It is about building meaningful relationships that drive collaboration, service, and real social impact.

He constantly challenges himself with three simple but powerful questions
Am I contributing beyond attendance
Am I leading or initiating projects
Am I embodying Rotary values in daily life

In Ram, we see a Rotarian who not only serves but reflects, grows, and inspires.
