On 17th May 2025, Safrina Foundation proudly marked a major milestone, five years of commitment to ending child marriage in Mwinilunga. To celebrate this journey, we organised the first-ever marathon in Mwinilunga District, held right at the bus station, a space that transformed into a vibrant hub of hope, unity, and purpose.
We were especially honored to have generous partners and sponsors who made this day possible. These included Uganda Airlines, with their Country Manager, Mrs. Rose Muyinda, joining us, as well as NOWSPAR, Area MP Newton Samakayi, Pharmcure Pharmacy, Liswaniso – UPND Youth Chair, Adrian Nkolomba, SADAF, Zamwina, Mwinilunga Town Council, the Ministry of Health – Mwinilunga, World Vision, and the Mwinilunga Police, among others. Their contributions and presence elevated the event and reminded us that collaboration is key in achieving real change..
The marathon featured three inclusive routes: a 1km run for persons with disabilities, a 3km route, and a 5km challenge. People came from as far as Ikeleng’i and Solwezi, including notable attendees like DAO Ikeleng’i and the Deputy Mayor of Solwezi. The support from local leadership was inspiring, with the majority of Heads of Departments in Mwinilunga present to lend their voices and energy to the cause.

What touched our hearts the most was the feedback from the community. Many participants expressed their desire for the marathon to become an annual event, something that brings people together while pushing forward a cause so close to our hearts.
As Safrina Foundation, we walked away from that day renewed and inspired. We are deeply grateful to every runner, donor, partner, and supporter who helped make this dream a reality. Together, we are not just marking an anniversary; we are shaping futures and creating a world where every girl can thrive.
