When you volunteer in Maboshe Memorial Centre (MMC) you are giving something back to the community by lending a helping hand to children and organization. What you may not realize is that volunteering in MMC also benefits you as an individual. There are many good reasons to get involved in this community development Prgrams, including learning something about yourself. Maboshe Memorial Centre (MMC) offers volunteer an opportunities for both teens and adults. Are you an individual, family or group planning on a volunteer travel, holiday or adventure abroad in Africa, then MMC is the answer. Volunteers are always needed in a wide range of worthy projects including; Education (teaching) Programs, Community (Building) Program, Youth work & Mentoring, Child Care Programs, Nature & Conservation Programs, Vocational Skills Programs and Health Education Program. When you volunteer in Western Province, Zambia, your skills will be needed in various aspects ranging from working in the field to administration. You will be required to help women and children, poverty, and abuse who need social reintegration, formal and informal education as well as professional training. You will also be needed to help develop social awareness among women/Youth in the rural areas, to include basic health-care and helping children. No need of previous experience, as with all our volunteer programs, we provide the tools and training needed to support your placement. When a volunteer arrives in Western Province, Zambia,our Coordinator meets them at the airport and brings them to our orientation place . From that point our volunteers spend between 2 to 3 days in our orientation program. This training provides volunteers with a very detailed understanding of how to acquaint in Western Province's Life and culture. What will be our commitments with your organization¬? 1. Volunteer Abroad Travel to Mongu, Western Province, Zambia, (Fundraising strategies to enable volunteers’ trip from their country to & from the project sites, the program package include: Flights, insurance, visas, vaccinations, departure from the program). 2. Education (construction of Maboshe Rural Child Centre (MRCC), 3. Child Aid Projects– a MMC community development project in lines of activities designed to assist families in each project in an organized way to improve their living condition for the sake of the children, activities include health and hygiene, education, strengthening the economy of the families through income generating activities, life skills training, environmental activities, sports and culture, and operation of preschools. 4. Shelter (construction of Maboshe Rural Child Drop In Centre (MRCDIC). 5. Fundraisings events for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) programs. 6. Fundraise for your cause (Donate your special occasion to change lives). 7. Run for Orphans & Vulnerable Children projects (Raise funds for a good cause). 8. Advocate for children’s rights (Urge lawmakers to take action for children’s needs). 9. Find an event or concert and volunteer (Share child sponsorship with even attendees). 10. Find sponsors for children (Child Ambassadors). 11. Host a sponsorship event (Host an event to share child sponsorship). 12. Volunteer your labor (Help at Maboshe Memorial Centre (MMC) centres & Offices). 13. Professional Advisors (Share giving resources with clients). 14. Volunteer events (Sponsor or raise funds for one of our volunteers events by providing in-kind donations). 15. In-kind support (Donations/contributions including secondhand clothes, shoes, toys, computers, photocopiers etc for children & centres). 16. Sponsor a Child in Western Province, Zambia: - (Find people who can pay college fees for an orphan, there are a huge number of children in Western Province who are either partially or totally orphaned or vulnerable due to HIV-AIDS; they don’t get basic necessities like food clothing access to education and even shelter. They suffer the cruelty of both freezing cold and hot sun. Due to poor living conditions that their widowed parents and unable guardians subject them to, these children die of malnutrition and lack of access to medical or emotional care. The nature of your hearts can bring a significant change to our environment; more especially to the people we see around but don’t necessarily live with. What will be MMC commitments with us? 1. Accommodation: (Onsite at the project site or stay with host families or at the MMC community resource centre. There are provisions for beds, mattresses bed sheets and mosquito nets. The bathroom facilities range from pit latrines, bathing may consist of either a bucket or a basin of water, with no electricity). 2. Meals: (Breakfast and dinner, Western province villages rely on a simple, largely vegetarian diet. A national dish called Mbuyobe means- Nshima, rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and green vegetables are also important to the African diet. Sometimes, meat from goats, chicken, or cows is included. You may find fish near the Zambezi River. Fresh fruit (e.g., banana, watermelon, pineapple, mango -- depending on the season) are abundant as well). 3. Airport pickup: On arrival date. 4. List of institutions where our services can be practiced: - (Ministry of Community & Child Development, Ministry of Health, Concern Worldwide Mongu Office, Zambia and other local child organizations). 12. Man power as permanent faculty for the orphanage where needed: - (MMC community local volunteers). 13. Tour and Safaris: - (Volunteering is quite intensive and volunteers are advised to take short breaks during their volunteer time to do sightseeing e.g. kit, Traditional home set up, Boat-Riding etc. Western Province is the most beautiful province with lots of adventures and landscape one would want to explore before returning home. For low cost tours we recommend adventure companies that can always be helpful in organizing safari packages in Western province at affordable rates). 14. Think about how much you receive when you give and consider why you want to volunteer in MMC. -Learn to be responsible for themselves and others -Make new friends -Increase your self confidence -Discover your talents and hidden skills -Develop marketable job skills -Learn from, serve and be served by a different culture -Enrich your education and earn great recommendations for future employment or college application -Certificate of completion depending on the volunteer hours not less than 50 hours -Volunteer de-briefing and recognition event. 15. Required skills (Volunteers do not need to have any skills or knowledge about construction, as they will mainly be doing unskilled work such as digging, mixing sand and cement, carrying rocks, sand and bricks, fetching water, and painting. They will be led by MMC skilled locals and work together with local community. Get your hands dirty to make a difference). 16. We strive to give our volunteers the big-picture about world poverty and development. When you volunteer with us, we ask that you get involved in all aspects of our programs. If you are volunteering at one of our centre, this means that you will be involved in the hands-on teaching and care-giving, as well as the administration and general management of the organization. In this way, we aim to give you a better understanding about issues concerning modern development, education and non-profit organizations. 17. Languages required: English Who can volunteer?: Anyone aged 16 and above but with Families or Groups all ages welcome since the application are filled by the Adults. Commitment: We have a 2 week minimum and a 4 month maximum. If you want to stay longer, we'll work it out if the space is available. Program costs: The cost to volunteer with MMC for a week is US $ 112 and for a month is US $500 for Accommodation and Food (Paid before or Upon Arrival). US $100 for Pickup to and from the Airport (Paid before departure) Notes: It is mandatory for you to get appropriate vaccines with the advice from your doctor and also it is advisable to come along with your travel and medical insurance for the placement duration.
