WHAT ARE SPIRITUAL GIFTS
Spiritual gifts are special abilities, divine empowerments, and supernatural manifestations given by the Holy Spirit to every believer for the purpose of serving God, strengthening the Church, and advancing the Kingdom of Jesus Christ on earth. They are gifts of grace that enable Christians to accomplish spiritual assignments beyond their natural human ability.
Unlike natural talents, which are inherited or developed through education, training, and experience, spiritual gifts originate from the Holy Spirit. While God can use a person's natural abilities for His glory, spiritual gifts are supernatural in nature and are distributed according to the sovereign will of the Holy Spirit. They are given after a person becomes part of the Body of Christ and are intended to produce spiritual impact and eternal results.
Spiritual gifts are not rewards for spiritual maturity, personal holiness, or years of Christian service. They are expressions of God's grace. However, believers are expected to grow in character, wisdom, and love so that these gifts can be exercised responsibly and effectively. The fruit of the Spirit reflects a believer's character, while the gifts of the Spirit demonstrate God's power working through that believer.
God gives different gifts to different people because every member of the Body of Christ has a unique assignment. Just as the human body has many parts with different functions, the Church consists of many believers with different spiritual gifts that work together to fulfill God's purposes. No gift is insignificant, and no believer possesses every gift. Each person's contribution is valuable and necessary for the healthy growth of the Church.
The primary purpose of spiritual gifts is never to promote personal fame, pride, or superiority. They are given to glorify God, serve others, edify the Church, win souls, encourage believers, strengthen the weak, and demonstrate the reality of God's power
