Provincial Leadership Rolls Up Sleeves to Improve Sanitation at Mansa General Hospital Women’s Shelter in Honour of International Women’s Day
MANSA, Zambia – In a unique and hands-on commemoration of International Women’s Day, the Provincial Executive Committee traded their boardroom attire for work boots on Friday, descending on the Mansa General Hospital Women’s Shelter to undertake a manual labour project aimed at improving health and hygiene for vulnerable women.
Leading by example, the committee members, including senior provincial officials, actively participated in digging a new garbage disposal pit for the facility. In addition to the physical labour, the delegation officially handed over a pocket of cement to the hospital administration to aid in the shelter’s ongoing maintenance and infrastructure needs.
The event was themed around practical action, highlighting the importance of safe sanitation and dignified living conditions for women seeking refuge at the shelter. The shelter provides critical support to survivors of gender-based violence and women undergoing medical challenges, offering them a safe space away from their home districts while accessing care at the provincial hospital.
The event concluded with the Provincial Executive Committee reaffirming it's dedication to support gender equality and improving healthcare infrastructure across the province, proving that community development sometimes starts with a shovel and a bag of cement.
