Strengthening Rural Livelihoods Through Partnership, Enterprise and Community Action

Sustainable rural development is built on strong partnerships that equip communities with the knowledge, skills and opportunities needed to create lasting change.

A Chance for Change Foundation was honoured to partner with the People's Process on Housing and Poverty in Zambia (PPHPZ) in delivering a practical farmer capacity-building programme for members of PPHPZ's community savings groups in Chisamba District.

For many years, PPHPZ has supported rural communities through community savings groups that promote financial discipline, encourage household savings, and create opportunities for members to invest in income-generating enterprises. This community-led approach plays an important role in reducing poverty and strengthening household resilience.

To complement these efforts, A Chance for Change Foundation provided practical technical training using the African Bird's Eye chili value chain as a learning platform. The sessions combined classroom instruction with field demonstrations, enabling participants to develop the knowledge and confidence needed to establish sustainable, market-oriented agricultural enterprises.

Participants strengthened their skills in:

🌱 Nursery establishment and seedling management

🌱 Climate-smart production practices

🌱 Soil health and crop nutrition management

🌱 Integrated pest and disease management

🌱 Harvesting and post-harvest handling

🌱 Farm enterprise management and market readiness

The collaboration demonstrates how community mobilisation, financial inclusion, technical capacity building and enterprise development can work together to create sustainable pathways out of poverty. When organised community groups gain practical production skills and access to viable market opportunities, they are better positioned to build resilient livelihoods, strengthen household incomes and contribute to inclusive rural economic growth.

We sincerely appreciate the People's Process on Housing and Poverty in Zambia (PPHPZ) for their leadership in organising this initiative and for their continued commitment to empowering rural communities. Their investment in strengthening community structures provides a solid foundation upon which productive and sustainable enterprises can grow.

At A Chance for Change Foundation, we remain committed to working alongside communities, government institutions, civil society organisations and private sector partners to expand economic opportunities that improve lives and strengthen rural economies.

Together, we are demonstrating that lasting development begins with organised communities, grows through strong partnerships, and flourishes when people have the opportunity to transform knowledge into sustainable livelihoods.

Strengthening partnerships for inclusive agricultural development in Zambia. 🌱

We were honored to receive a delegation from the AU-EU Youth Action Lab as part of our ongoing project, Advocating for Inclusive Agricultural Policies to Empower Marginalized Women and Youth in Mansa.

Upon their arrival, we facilitated a courtesy call to the Mayor of Mansa, Mr. Njikho Musuku, reinforcing the importance of collaboration between local government, development partners, and community-driven initiatives.

This engagement reflects our shared commitment to empowering 500 marginalized women and youth in Mansa through inclusive agricultural policies and meaningful stakeholder collaboration.

Through this initiative, we are ensuring that marginalized farmers are not only included in agricultural systems, but are actively shaping the policies that define their livelihoods.

At A Chance for Change Foundation, we continue to bridge the gap between communities, policymakers, and global partners to drive sustainable and inclusive development.

This is how we build agricultural systems that leave no one behind.
