Leadership in Action | Senior Chief Kabinga Leads the Way

Following our three-day climate-smart chili production training in Kanchibiya District, A Chance for Change Foundation paid a courtesy call to Senior Chief Kabinga at his farm within the district.

During this visit, our team conducted a practical demonstration on how to prepare and manage chili nurseries, reinforcing the skills shared during the training and showcasing how farmers can apply climate-smart practices at community level.

We are proud and inspired to share that Senior Chief Kabinga has since embarked on 10 hectares of chili production under our out-grower scheme. This is a remarkable step that speaks to the power of commitment, dedication, and leading by example.

The Chief’s involvement is not only strengthening the project but also motivating the wider community. As a respected traditional leader, Senior Chief Kabinga is now serving as an ambassador of chili production, demonstrating to local farmers how this initiative can improve livelihoods and grow sustainable income for small-scale producers.

We are truly proud of this development and excited to see how this leadership will drive even greater participation and success across Kanchibiya District and beyond.

Together, we are building climate-smart communities and uplifting rural livelihoods.

Partnership Highlight | OPOC × A Chance for Change Foundation

Back in June 2025, A Chance for Change Foundation proudly kicked off a promising collaboration with Oil-Palm Out-Grower Company (OPOC) in Kanchibiya District, Muchinga Province. We started on a high note with a three-day farmer training hosted by OPOC at ZamPalm.

We trained over 40 farmers in chili production using climate-smart farming practices, aimed at supporting sustainable development, improving productivity, and protecting the environment.

We are sincerely grateful for the support that made this training impactful. The training was supported by the Muchinga Provincial Administration, represented by the District Commissioner for Kanchibiya District, alongside the dedicated participation of the district agricultural offices.

The sessions combined theory with hands-on learning. Our team also conducted practical demonstrations on how chili nurseries should be properly prepared, ensuring farmers gained real skills they can apply immediately.

This milestone laid a strong foundation for what comes next. We are excited to build on this momentum and scale the initiative across Muchinga Province, strengthening rural livelihoods through sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture.

🤝 Together, we are growing opportunities while protecting our environment. 🌶️🌍

Strengthening Our Advocacy for Inclusive Agricultural Policies in Mansa

AU–EU Youth Action Lab | Link & Learn Event, Bishoftu, Ethiopia

We are pleased to share highlights from Day One of the AU–EU Youth Action Lab Link & Learn Event, held in Bishoftu, Ethiopia from December 8 to 10, 2025. This milestone convening marks the first AU–EU Youth Action Lab event ever hosted in Ethiopia.

A Chance for Change Foundation was officially represented by our Executive Director and Director of Finance, demonstrating our leadership’s commitment to accountable, youth-led advocacy and sustainable program implementation. Their participation strengthens our ongoing project, Advocating for Inclusive Agricultural Policies to Empower Marginalized Women and Youth in Mansa.

The event brought together 42 AU–EU youth-led organizations from 17 African and European countries, creating a powerful platform to link, learn, and share experiences on policy advocacy, governance, and youth participation.

The insights gained on inclusive policymaking, stakeholder engagement, and cross-regional collaboration will directly inform our advocacy work in Mansa, enhancing policy dialogues and amplifying the voices of marginalized women and youth in agricultural decision-making spaces.

We remain committed to translating these regional and global learnings into tangible advocacy outcomes that advance inclusive agricultural policies and sustainable livelihoods in Mansa. More highlights to follow.

🌶️ Growing Hope in Rufunsa: Christine’s Journey to Economic Freedom 🌱✨

This is what transformation looks like.

Meet Christine Mambwe, a hardworking smallholder farmer in Rufunsa whose life is changing through the power of sustainable agriculture. With determination, resilience, and the right support, Christine is turning a simple chili field into a pathway toward economic freedom for her family.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of Joan Palmquist, who invested over K100,000, A Chance for Change Foundation has been able to help Christine rebuild her livelihood.

Through this support, we:

💧 Drilled a borehole to secure clean water
☀️ Installed a solar powered pump
💦 Set up efficient drip irrigation
🌶️ Provided all the inputs needed to grow African Birds Eye Chili sustainably

And today, the impact is undeniable.

Christine has already harvested 51kg of dry chili, valued at K3,209.18 (138.51 USD) which is her very first harvest. For her and her family, this is more than income.
It is proof that chili farming can restore dignity, stability, and opportunity.

Even more exciting is that Christine will continue harvesting for the next three years, with expected yields of 1,000kg every two months. This is the beginning of a long term, sustainable income source that can completely transform her household.

This is the power of hope.
This is the power of opportunity.
This is the impact of your support.

🙏 Thank you, Joan Palmquist, for believing in Christine and investing in rural transformation.

At A Chance for Change Foundation, we remain committed to walking alongside farmers like her, helping communities rise, one harvest at a time.

Strengthening Partnerships for Inclusive Agricultural Policy Reform in Mansa! 🇿🇲🇪🇺

Earlier this week, on December 3rd, our team took an important step in preparing for the full rollout of the Inclusive Agricultural Policy Reform Project. This project is co-funded by the AU–EU Youth Action Lab.

We paid a courtesy call to the Luapula Province Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Prudence Chinama Kangwa, together with Deputy Permanent Secretary Mr. Evans Sikabuba, to strengthen collaboration as we move toward full implementation in Mansa District.

Our next steps include deepened engagement with key line ministries, including the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Community Development. Their partnership is essential to ensuring inclusive participation and co-creation as we prepare for full implementation.

Together with our partners, we are laying the foundation for a more inclusive and participatory agricultural policy environment in Mansa.

📢 Strengthening Partnerships for Agroforestry Development in Muchinga Province

Yesterday, A Chance for Change Foundation had the honour of hosting a delegation from the Muchinga Provincial Administration at our Mansa office. The delegation included Mr. Kamenda Mataa, Assistant Director–Provincial Planning Unit; Mr. Evans Hichilema, Assistant Secretary; and Mr. Maluma Maxwell, Principal Small & Medium Enterprise Development Officer.

This engagement marks an important milestone in our journey to implement the Chili Agroforestry Project in Muchinga Province, an initiative created to empower farmers, promote sustainable land use, and stimulate rural economic growth.

We express our sincere gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Zambia for granting us the opportunity to collaborate with the Muchinga Provincial Administration. This partnership demonstrates the government's commitment to supporting community-driven development and agricultural innovation.

During the meeting, our Executive Director, Mr. John Sakala, reaffirmed the life-changing potential of this project for the people of Muchinga. He emphasized that the initiative will not only uplift local communities but also support the foundation’s growth as we establish a strong and impactful presence within the province.

This collaboration will also boost our future plans to set up a processing plant in Muchinga Province, as we continue working closely with the administration and our collaborating partners, including MC Group Holdings, to build a strong and sustainable chili value chain.

With the shared vision and commitment from both teams, we are confident that this partnership will lead to progressive development within Muchinga Province, creating a model that can be replicated across other regions of Zambia.

We look forward to the next steps in this transformative journey. 🌱🤝🇿🇲
