CHANDRIKA WOMEN AND YOUTH FOUNDATION PARTICIPATES IN ACCESS TO INFORMATION (ATI) LAW IMPLEMENTATION SESSION

Our Director had the privilege of participating in the Information Session on the Implementation of the Access to Information (ATI) Law organized by Panos Institute Southern Africa (PSAf) with support from GIZ at Sali Riverside Resort in Mansa.

The two-day engagement brought together key stakeholders from government institutions, civil society organizations, local authorities, and the media to strengthen understanding and implementation of Zambia's Access to Information Act No. 24 of 2023.

The sessions focused on critical areas including ATI request procedures, response timelines, the roles and responsibilities of information officers, proactive disclosure of information, and mechanisms for promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in governance.

As an organization committed to empowering women, youth, and communities through information and advocacy, Chandrika Women and Youth Foundation recognizes that access to information is a fundamental pillar of democracy, good governance, and sustainable development.

We commend Panos Institute Southern Africa and GIZ for facilitating this important initiative and creating a platform for stakeholders to enhance institutional preparedness and collaborative efforts in the operationalization of the ATI Law.

Together, we can build a more informed, transparent, and accountable society for all Zambians.

Today, Chandrika Women and Youth Foundation had the privilege of attending the launch of a transformative initiative in Kabuta Settlement.
The Centre for Future Generation (CFG), in partnership with Mansa Municipal Council and with support from GIZ, officially launched the Citizen +D Programme — Just and Climate-Resilient Urban Development and Decentralization.
Our Director was present, alongside various Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and key stakeholders, all united around one vision — transforming Kabuta into a fully recognized township.
This transformation holds real promise for the community: • Improved infrastructure such as roads and drainage
• Better access to essential services like water, sanitation, healthcare, and electricity
• Increased economic opportunities and local job creation
• Strengthened governance through decentralization
• Climate-resilient planning for a sustainable future
As Chandrika Women and Youth Foundation, we value being part of conversations and initiatives that shape inclusive, people-centered development — especially those that uplift women and youth.
Kabuta’s journey to becoming a township is a step toward dignity, opportunity, and long-term growth.

Today in Zambia we commemorate Youth Day — a day that reminds us that the future of our nation is not something that will simply arrive; it is something young people must build with their own hands.

For a foundation like Chandrika Women and Youth Foundation, this day carries a deeper meaning. It is about recognizing the strength, creativity, and determination that lives within every young person.
Young people are not just leaders of tomorrow.
They are innovators today.
They are entrepreneurs today.
They are community builders today.

Across Zambia, young men and women are starting businesses, learning skills, supporting families, and finding solutions to the challenges our communities face.

When youth are empowered with opportunity, mentorship, and the right support systems, they become a powerful force for national transformation.

At Chandrika Women and Youth Foundation, we believe that empowering young people—especially young women—is one of the greatest investments any society can make. When youth rise, communities rise. When communities rise, the nation moves forward.

On this Youth Day, we celebrate the courage of young people who refuse to give up on their dreams. We celebrate those who are choosing discipline, education, entrepreneurship, and service to their communities.
Let today be a reminder to every young person:
Your ideas matter.
Your voice matters.
Your future matters.
Stand up.
Step forward.

Build the Zambia you want to see.
Happy Youth Day to all the young people shaping the future.
