YouthConnect Engages in Public Discussion on Voting Day

On Monday, 10 August, YouthConnect was honoured to be invited by Radio Yangeni, in collaboration with BBC Media Action, One Love Radio, and Radio Ichengelo, to participate in a public discussion themed “Voting Day: What Will Determine How People Vote?” held at Teja Executive Lodge.

The discussion provided an important platform for civil society organisations and political parties to engage in meaningful dialogue on civic participation, democracy, informed decision-making, and the importance of peaceful and respectful engagement as Zambia approaches the General Elections.

We were particularly proud to represent the voice and interests of young people in this important conversation, emphasizing the critical role of youth in shaping the democratic future of our country.

We later concluded the day with interviews on Diamond TV Zambia, where we highlighted the role of young people in these elections, encouraged them to turn out in numbers and exercise their democratic right to vote, and, most importantly, urged them never to allow themselves to be used as tools of political or electoral violence.

As Zambia prepares to vote tomorrow, 13 August 2026, our message to young people is simple:

Remain peaceful. Reject violence. Do not be intimidated. Do not intimidate others. Vote freely, responsibly, and according to your own convictions.

We have a Zambia to protect, preserve, and safeguard, and the future we desire is dependent on the choices and actions we make today.

Our Vote. Our Voice. Our Responsibility. Our Zambia. 🇿🇲

YouthConnect Features on Crown TV Zambia News

YouthConnect was featured on Crown TV News during our Peaceful and Violence-Free Elections Community Roadshow and Awareness Campaign, conducted in partnership with ActionAid Zambia.

During the engagement, we encouraged young people in Mansa and beyond to turn out in numbers and exercise their democratic right to vote for candidates of their choice at their respective polling stations.

We further urged young people to make informed decisions, reject political violence, and never allow themselves to be used as tools of violence or political manipulation. We emphasized the importance of responsible conduct and peaceful coexistence before, during, and after the elections.

We reminded young people that building a peaceful Zambia is a collective responsibility and that the youth are leaders of both today and tomorrow. Our conduct, attitudes, and actions must therefore reflect the responsibility expected of citizens and leaders.

Most importantly, we encouraged citizens to make their electoral choices based on ideas, policies, vision, integrity, and leadership, not violence or intimidation.

Peace is our collective responsibility. Our vote is our voice. Our conduct defines the Zambia we build. 🇿🇲

Today, we successfully hosted a Community Awareness Roadshow on Peaceful and Violence-Free Elections in partnership with ActionAid Zambia, covering key community points including Maiteneke, Chilyapa, Down UB and Senama Markets.

The engagement marked the conclusion of our Youth Peace Campaign, an initiative aimed at raising awareness and sensitizing young people and communities on the importance of maintaining peace, unity and tolerance as Zambia heads towards the 13 August 2026 General Elections.

At the heart of the campaign was a simple but powerful message: young people must be Peace Ambassadors, not instruments of violence.

Through our community engagements, we emphasized the roles and responsibilities of citizens and voters, encouraging communities to:
• Respect and tolerate divergent political opinions and perspectives;
• Engage in peaceful, respectful and issue-based discussions;
• Reject political violence, intimidation and provocation;
• Promote unity and peaceful coexistence within their communities; and
• Exercise their right to vote peacefully and responsibly.

We were also grateful to the Zambia Police Service for joining the engagement and providing important guidance to the public on maintaining law and order, responsible conduct and the need for communities to uphold peace throughout the electoral period.

We sincerely appreciate ActionAid Zambia, the Zambia Police Service, community leaders, young people, marketeers, residents and everyone who showed up and supported this important initiative.

Your participation demonstrates that peace is a shared responsibility.

As young people, we have a responsibility to lead the way, not in violence, but in peace-building, unity, responsible citizenship and democratic participation.

The youth are not tools of violence. We are Peace Ambassadors. We are Peace Builders. We are the leaders of today and tomorrow.

Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this initiative. Our message of hope, peace and unity has reached many hearts, and we remain committed to building communities where differences are resolved through dialogue, not violence.

YouthConnect Participates in Luapula Landscape Restoration Technical Working Groups Onboarding

Our organization participated in the Onboarding Process for the Four Technical Working Groups (TWGs) under the Luapula Landscape Restoration Programme, held on 8 August 2026 at Crossroads Lodge, Mansa.

The programme was established in 2024 through a partnership between Mansa District Land Alliance (MDLA) and Commonland, an international non-profit organisation supporting communities and organisations to restore landscapes and advance a regenerative future.

The Luapula Landscape Partnership seeks to address land degradation and promote sustainable, holistic and coordinated landscape management across Luapula Province, bringing together Government institutions, Civil Society Organisations, the private sector, traditional leadership and local communities under the 4Returns framework.

The onboarding focused on strengthening stakeholder understanding of the roles, responsibilities and expectations of the four Technical Working Groups, Social, Environmental, Economic and Governance, while formalising institutional representation and strengthening coordination, accountability and collective action.

YouthConnect MLI is proud to contribute to this important platform and remains committed to ensuring that young people are meaningfully engaged as partners in landscape restoration, environmental stewardship, sustainable livelihoods and community resilience across Luapula Province.

Restoring Luapula is a collective responsibility, and young people must be part of shaping its sustainable future.

Yesterday we featured on Prime Television Zambia News,

We strongly and unequivocally condemned the recent incidents of political violence witnessed in different parts of the country as Zambia approaches the 13 August 2026 General Elections.

These reports are deeply saddening and worrying, particularly because some young people appear to be at the centre of these unfortunate acts, tarnishing the image of the many peace-loving youths across the country.

Young people should focus on evaluating the manifestos and policies of political players rather than engaging in violence. Zambia is known for its peace, and there is no room for political violence.

Every well-meaning Zambian has a responsibility to denounce such acts in the strongest possible terms and to safeguard our country’s peace.

Our message to young people as we head towards the 13th August polls is simple and unequivocal: be responsible in your conduct before, during, and after the elections.

Choose peace over violence. Choose dialogue over confrontation. Choose the ballot over conflict.

Do not allow yourselves to be used as instruments of violence or division. Your energy, voice, and influence are far too valuable to be exploited for destructive purposes.

Instead, be Ambassadors of Goodwill, champions of peace, and responsible citizens. Let your vote, not violence be the instrument through which your voice is heard and your concerns are addressed.

The future of our democracy depends on the choices we make today. Let us protect our peace, uphold our values, and build a Zambia where elections unite rather than divide us.

Strengthened for the Task Ahead - Election Monitors Training Concluded

We are pleased to have successfully concluded our two-day Election Monitors Training organised by Global Platform Zambia, through the support of ActionAid Zambia, held at Mika Convention Centre in Lusaka.

It has been an enriching and impactful learning experience, facilitated by officers from the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), who equipped participants with practical knowledge on the electoral process, election monitoring and observation, election reporting, the Electoral Code of Conduct, and the roles and responsibilities of Election Monitors.

We are extremely proud to have been part of this important initiative and to have been empowered as Election Monitors in preparation for the 13 August 2026 General Elections.

The knowledge and skills gained over the past two days have strengthened our capacity to contribute professionally, impartially, and responsibly towards promoting credible, peaceful, transparent, and accountable elections.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Global Platform Zambia and ActionAid Zambia for recognising and including youth-led organisations in this important democratic process.

We also appreciate the opportunity to learn alongside fellow civil society organisations committed to advancing electoral integrity in Zambia.

Together, we remain committed to upholding democratic values and supporting free, fair, peaceful, and credible elections.
