PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

Dear Colleagues,

Greetings to you all.

Our journey towards the legal recognition and regulation of social work as a profession has been long and, at times, challenging. Along the way, we encountered many obstacles, but through our shared commitment, resilience, patience, and perseverance, we remained focused on our goal. Today, I am delighted to share that our collective efforts have borne fruit.

I am pleased to announce that the Social Workers' Association of Zambia (SWAZ) has officially received the following Statutory Instruments as published by the Government Printer:

Statutory Instrument No. 37 of 2026 – The Social Workers Association of Zambia Act (Commencement) Order, 2026.
Statutory Instrument No. 57 of 2026 – The Social Workers Association of Zambia (Disciplinary Proceedings) Rules, 2026.
Statutory Instrument No. 53 of 2026 – The Social Workers Association of Zambia (General) Regulations, 2026.

Colleagues who wish to obtain personal copies may purchase them directly from the Government Printer at the following prices:

Statutory Instrument No. 37 of 2026 – ZMW 4.00 per copy.
Statutory Instrument No. 57 of 2026 – ZMW 48.00 per copy.
Statutory Instrument No. 53 of 2026 – ZMW 48.00 per copy.

This is a significant milestone for our profession and a testament to what we can achieve when we work together with determination and purpose. I extend my sincere appreciation to everyone who has contributed to this historic achievement.

We will soon communicate the next steps, including the proposed dates for the Elective General Meeting and other important implementation arrangements under the Act.

Subject: Update on the SWAZ SIs – General Regulations and Rules of the Disciplinary Committee

Dear Colleagues,

As we celebrate World Social Work Day 2026, the SWAZ Secretariat is pleased to inform you that the above-mentioned Statutory Instruments (SIs) have been received by the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services from the Ministry of Justice. Colleagues in the Department of Planning within the receiving Ministry are currently making arrangements for the documents to be signed by the Minister of Community Development and Social Services.

In the same vein, we would like to inform you that SWAZ will be submitting a short paragraph Statutory Instrument, known as a Commencement Order, to be signed by the Minister. This order will bring the Act into effect.

Following this development, we will in due course announce the date for the Elective General Meeting. We also wish to assure you that we will step up efforts to put in place the necessary administrative processes to enable the institution to effectively operationalise the Act and serve its members.

REF: THE 2026 WORLD SOCIAL WORK DAY COMMEMORATION

Dear SWAZ Members and Social Workers,
The Social Workers Association of Zambia (SWAZ) wishes to inform its members and all social workers that preparations for the 2026 World Social Work Day (WSDW) celebrations that will be held on Tuesday, 17th March 2026, are underway.
In this regard, members and institutions that require invitation letters for the 2026 WSDW commemorations are kindly requested to submit their requests via email. All requests should clearly indicate:
• The full name and title of the person or institution to whom the invitation letter should be addressed
• The organisation or institution name (where applicable)

Additionally, SWAZ would like to notify members that pre-orders for the 2026 WSDW-branded attire are now open. To allow adequate time for branding and production, the pre-order deadline is February 25th, 2026. Please note that limited shirts will be stocked, and all attire will primarily be produced and made available upon pre-order and advance payment of the applicable cost only. Please ensure to specify the size and or type of the attire you need.
The available attire options and prices are as follows:
• Round Neck T-Shirt – ZMW 165
• Golf T-Shirt – ZMW 260
• Corporate Shirt – ZMW 450
