Last week, we had the privilege of supporting Lungowe, a young Deaf woman, as she applied for her disability ID card—a vital step toward accessing government services and opportunities for persons with disabilities in Zambia.

The journey isn’t easy. It requires a medical assessment at the hospital, completing detailed paperwork, and finally submitting everything to the Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD). For someone like Lungowe, who communicates through Sign Language, this process would have been nearly impossible without an interpreter.

That’s where SLCZ stepped in—walking with her every step of the way to ensure her voice was heard. 💙

And the best part? She got her ID! 🎉 Her smile says it all. ✨

💙 Barriers We Break 💙

The Deaf community in Zambia faces many challenges, limited communication with others and difficulty finding work. Many are left out at school, in the workplace, and within their communities, and few people know sign language, making daily life harder.

At SLCZ, we tackle these challenges head-on. We provide education, support schools, teach sign language, and create pathways to employment, helping Deaf people fully participate in society.

✨ But we can’t do it alone. Your support helps us break these barriers and empower the Deaf community. Donate today via the link in our bio and be part of the change!

🌟 Luyando update!

Luyando is currently retaking her Grade 7 exams, giving her the opportunity to move schools and progress to Grade 8. With the help of daily extra tuition, she’s gaining the confidence and knowledge she needs to succeed. 📚💪

This move will be such a positive step for her. At her new school, she’ll join more Deaf children, giving her greater exposure to Sign Language and helping her continue to grow her communication and academic skills.

We’re confident that with her determination - and your continued support - Luyando will shine. 🌟

We may be small, but we’re making a big difference. 💙

In one of our projects, SLCZ is supporting 7 incredible Deaf students in school—1 in college, 1 in primary, and 5 in high school. Alongside their regular classes, we provide after-school tuition to help them prepare for crucial exams that could open doors to jobs or vocational training.

Every smile, every bit of progress, reminds us why this work matters. 🌟

But we can’t do it alone—your support makes it possible. Even the smallest donation helps us keep children in school and give them the future they deserve.

A few weeks ago, our team visited a school in Lusaka to learn how others are supporting deaf children - and what we found was inspiring.

In one classroom, we met two teachers, including a deaf teacher who serves as a role model for every student. Representation matters - and seeing a deaf teacher leading with confidence and care was a beautiful reminder of what’s possible.

🙌🏽 We celebrate schools that are including and uplifting deaf learners, a community that’s too often overlooked. There’s still so much work to be done in Zambia’s deaf education field, but moments like these give us hope. May more schools follow this path - and may every deaf child know they are seen, heard, and supported.

✨ At SLCZ, small acts of kindness go a long way. We recently received a generous donation of leather school shoes, and our dedicated team lovingly restored them to near-new condition.

One special pair found its way to Overton—a bright, hardworking student receiving extra tuition through our program.

Overton has travelled to Lusaka to re-sit his Grade 12 exams, and we were thrilled to support him with this small but meaningful gift.

His gratitude was heartfelt, and it’s all thanks to the incredible support from ones like you.

Together we are making a difference in the local Deaf community.
