Oxfam In Zambia

Oxfam In Zambia We work on Agriculture, Women's Rights, Governance and Humanitarian. Our ultimate goal is to enable people to exercise their rights and manage their own lives.

Oxfam is an international confederation of 19 organisations working in approximately 94 countries worldwide to find solutions to poverty and what we consider injustice around the world. We work directly with communities and seek to influence the powerful, to ensure that poor people can improve their lives and livelihoods and have a say in decisions that affect them. Our focus areas are development

, emergencies, campaigning, advocacy and policy research. Oxfam In Zambia aims to influence a reduction in poverty and inequality through transformation of Zambia’s growth model in favour of people living in poverty and significantly advancing women’s rights. This is achieved through:

• Promotion of agriculture productivity and building resilience through increased investment and access to markets for small holder farmers.

• Promotion of gender equality and women's rights through building of a stronger women's rights movement and creation of a conducive policy and social environment for women and girls.

• Mobilisation and building capacity of CSOs and Citizens to hold government and private sector accountable in the use of natural resources and ensure the benefits accrue to ordinary Zambians especially women.

• Building Oxfam and partner capacity to respond to humanitarian emergencies reduce community vulnerability to hazards and increase ability to recover from shocks.

Now more than ever, access to clean and safe water is critical as we work towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Today, Oxfam in Zambia, with funding from the Wainwright Trust, officially handed over a solar-powered water reticulation system to Itapa Rural Health Center in Namwala.

Since 2016, the center had been relying on a single, unreliable hand-pumped borehole. With the new system, complete with a storage tank, reliable and safe water is finally a reality!

Eric Sitali, Oxfam Business Development Manager, expressed gratitude and reaffirmed Oxfam’s commitment to supporting communities.

Namwala District Commissioner, Ephraim Shandavu said: “No assistance is too small. This water point is a step closer to sustainability for our people.”

This life-changing project was made possible with a contribution of £5,000 (approximately K138,000).

"We have observed a 7% decline in aid, the first such reduction in several years. There is a possibility of further decreases, which poses serious implications for the humanitarian sector. This trend is particularly concerning. As we navigate this challenging period, it is imperative that we strengthen our alliances and reaffirm our commitment to collective action and shared goals." “The aid cuts have affected the developmental and humanitarian landscape. This has seen a disruption in the provision of essential services such as the health sector, education, WASH and social protection programmes which most vulnerable people rely on.
Dialogues such as this one we are having today provides us an opportunity to dialogue, reflect and co-create locally driven solutions that are responsive as we work as a collective.” Says Dailes Judge, Oxfam in Africa Deputy Director during the on-gong Aid Cut webinar.

Oxfam in Zambia recently conducted a Social Media Management and Documentation Training to equip their partners, Women for Change , YWCA Zambia, and Nutri-Aid Trust, with practical skills in digital storytelling, content creation, and effective online engagement.

Participants gained hands-on experience in crafting compelling messages, strengthening their digital presence, and improving how they document their work for greater community impact and project accountability.

"This training opened my eyes to the real power of social media. It’s more than just visibility, it’s about telling our stories, influencing change, and reaching those who need to hear our message themost," said Lumbiwe Mwanza, Advocacy and Communications Officer at YWCA after the training.

The training, conducted under the Ireland Civil Society Partnership (ICSP) Project, with support from Irish Aid was facilitated by Oxfam in Zambia’s Communications Officer, Eric Malyangu Jnr.
