While talking about this very important topic she urged Government to engage U.S. authorities and advocate for a system that allows applicants to submit their documents and complete biometric procedures within Zambia.

The Travel Agents Association of Zambia (TAAZ) has described the United States' decision to move routine visa processing services for Zambians to South Africa as unfair, warning that it will significantly increase travel costs and discourage many people from applying.

Routine United States visa services for Zambian nationals and residents seeking to travel to the United States will, effective 1st August 2026, be processed through the United States Consulate General in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Speaking to Hot FM News, TAAZ Chairperson Hamida Malik said applicants will now have to meet additional expenses, including flights, accommodation and other travel costs, without any guarantee that their visa applications will be approved.

Ms. Malik has urged Government to engage U.S. authorities and advocate for a system that allows applicants to submit their documents and complete biometric procedures within Zambia.

She said the added costs and inconvenience are likely to discourage many Zambians from travelling to the United States.

𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋 𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓!

The Association of Eastern and Southern Africa Travel Agents (AESATA) is pleased to announce the election of Dr. Joseph Kithitu (Ph.D,MBA, BSC,CPAK,CPSK,AKIM) as the new President of AESATA.

The election was concluded during the 2026 AESATA Travel Agents' Conference held in Livingstone, Zambia, where the AESATA Board unanimously entrusted Dr. Kithitu with the responsibility of leading the Association into its next chapter of regional growth and collaboration.

Dr. Kithitu succeeds Mr. Moustafa H. Khataw, whose leadership and commitment have contributed significantly to strengthening AESATA's voice across Eastern and Southern Africa. The Board extends its sincere appreciation for his dedicated service and lasting contribution to the Association.

A distinguished leader in the travel industry, Dr. Kithitu currently serves as Chairman of the Kenya Association of Travel Agents and is a Board Member of the Universal Federation of Travel Agents Associations | UFTAA. His extensive experience in corporate governance, finance and travel industry leadership positions him well to steer AESATA through an evolving aviation and tourism landscape.

Speaking following his election, Dr. Kithitu reaffirmed his commitment to advancing AESATA's mission of strengthening regional cooperation, advocating for travel agents, and promoting sustainable growth across the travel ecosystem.

As the regional umbrella body representing national travel agent associations across Eastern and Southern Africa, AESATA remains committed to championing policies and partnerships that improve air connectivity, strengthen the travel trade, embrace technological transformation, and create greater opportunities for its members.

The Association looks forward to working closely with its member associations, industry partners, governments, airlines and stakeholders under Dr. Kithitu's leadership as it continues to build a more connected, resilient and prosperous travel industry for Africa.
