FELICITATION MESSAGE – ASSD 2026

It is with profound gratitude and immense pride that we announce the selection of the Founder and Executive President of the Chembe District Youth Platform as a Delegate to the Africa Summit for Sustainable Development (ASSD) 2026, hosted by AIIDEV Africa in Lagos, Nigeria.

Theme: Africa's Transformation Roadmap: Accelerating Progress Toward the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063

Patrick was certified as an SDGs Advocate following the successful completion of the Inaugural Cohort of the Africa SDGs Mentorship Programme, a rigorous seven-month leadership and capacity-building initiative completed in 2024. This distinguished selection is a testament to his exemplary leadership, unwavering advocacy for sustainable development, and commitment to inclusive, youth-led engagement at the grassroots level.

The Summit, scheduled to take place from 22nd to 24th January 2026, will convene a diverse pool of distinguished and high-level leaders who will share critical insights and knowledge aimed at strengthening meaningful global youth engagement, fostering partnerships, and enhancing collaboration among state actors, policymakers, the private sector, academia, and civil society organisations.

ASSD 2026 will equip delegates with innovative and cutting-edge ideas to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, align with Agenda 2063—the African Union’s development blueprint, and explore opportunities for long-term partnerships and strategic collaboration.

We are confident that Patrick’s participation will yield significant outcomes that will elevate the global standing of our organisation, strengthen youth engagement initiatives, and accelerate community development projects in Chembe District, Luapula Province, Zambia, in pursuit of the Africa we want.

In conclusion, the entire Executive Leadership Structure proudly celebrates our Founder on this remarkable milestone.

“Handle Antimicrobials with Care – Protect Our Future!”

The Chembe District Youth Platform joins the nation and global community in commemorating World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week, 18–24 November. Our participation reflects our commitment to safeguarding youth, families, and community wellbeing in Chembe and beyond.

WHY WE ARE PARTICIPATING

AMR threatens health, food security, and economic development. As young people, we play a key role in raising awareness and promoting responsible use of antibiotics and other antimicrobials. We aim to encourage communities to avoid self-medication, understand the risks of drug misuse, and embrace the One Health approach linking human, animal, and environmental health.

CHALLENGES WE FACE

Chembe, like many rural areas in Zambia, faces several AMR-related challenges:

a) Limited access to accurate health information.
b) Widespread self-medication and easy access to over-the-counter antibiotics.
c) Weak healthcare and veterinary systems that struggle to regulate drug use.
d) Environmental contamination from poor waste disposal and pollution.
e) Limited resources for youth-led outreach and awareness campaigns.

SUSTAINABILITY FOR ZAMBIA

i) To ensure long-term impact, we are committed to:
ii) Strengthening community and school awareness activities led by youth.
iii) Working with health experts, agriculture officers, and local leaders to promote responsible antimicrobial use.
iv) Supporting policies on drug regulation, waste management, and environmental protection.
v) Building youth capacity through training, digital awareness, and community dialogues.
vi) Encouraging preventive behaviors—good hygiene, clean water, safe food handling, and vaccination.

Together, let’s fight AMR and protect Zambia’s future.
