*I Can Is Better Than IQ*
In a world that loves to measure intelligence with numbers, the simple phrase “I can” often gets drowned out. Yet, countless stories show that determination, grit, and a belief in oneself can outshine any test score.
> “It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” – Confucius
When a child looks at a puzzle and says, “I can figure this out,” they keep trying until the pieces fit. That same mindset pushes a student to ask for help, practice a little longer, and finally master a tough concept. Effort fueled by confidence is the engine of achievement.
> “The only limit to our realization of tomorrow is our doubts today.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt
Intelligence is a tool; attitude is the hand that wields it. A high IQ may open doors, but without the belief that you belong on the other side, those doors stay closed. Research repeatedly shows that a growth mindset—believing abilities can be developed—correlates strongly with resilience and long‑term success.
> “What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create.” – Buddha
Consider people who never topped their class but changed the world: the entrepreneur who failed dozens of times before building a thriving company, the artist told she had no talent who painted masterpieces, the athlete cut from the team who trained until he earned a gold medal. Their common thread? An unshakable “I can” attitude.
> “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” – Winston Churchill
How can we nurture this spirit?
- *Celebrate effort*, not just results. Praise the hard work, the persistence, the learning process.
- *Model resilience*. Share your own setbacks and how you overcame them.
- *Encourage curiosity*. Let questions lead the way, and remind learners that mistakes are stepping stones.
In the end, a high IQ may earn you a seat at the table, but an “I can” mindset ensures you stay seated, contribute, and eventually lead.
> “The mind is everything. What you think, you become.” – Buddha
Remember: it’s not about how smart you are; it’s about how steadfast you are in saying, “I can.”
