We were honoured to be hosted by Mr Frankson Musukwa, Director General for the Zambia Agency for persons with Disabilities (ZAPD), during our courtesy visit.

Join for Joy has always ensured and advocated for playful educational opportunities to be accessible to all children, equitable and inclusive, and free from any form of discrimination. Join for Joy’s game manual has over 60 sports and play games for teachers to incorporate in their daily interactions with learners at school. These games each have a section on how to practise inclusivity with children living with disabilities (CWD).

As we continue to advocate for more inclusive playful learning approaches in the schools we work in, we hope to work very closely with ZAPD to achieve this goal.

Also present during the meeting were the ZAPD Senior Rehabilitation Officer - Ms Emmah Kaputo, Join for Joy Zambia Country Manager - Mwangala Ikacana and Join for Joy Zambia Disability Inclusion Project Lead - Mary Luole.

205 girls were present during the menstrual hygiene session at ZNS Safari Primary School. Some new members and some frequent club members.

Largest group we have observed this term. Too large to fit in one classroom, so we took the session outside. Despite the number, coach Sylvia and coach Chihongo managed the session perfectly well.

130 girls registered to receive a menstrual cup.

It's always encouraging to hear young men begin to speak about their understanding of menstrual hygiene at ZNS Safari Primary School.

The menstrual cycle relay was conducted by Coach Bether, Edwin and Chanda. They broke down the 4 phases and related games from the manual that depict what happens in the body during those four phases.

Coach Hara was observed conducting the game "Fill the Bottle” with the grade 5, and 6 learners at Mukuyu Primary School.

The game was used to discuss life skills on teamwork, resilience, and being cautious and careful. For instance, he explained the need for learners to understand the question before you respond during class assessments and also to support systems such as friends, family, and the school to help achieve active goals.

Mukuyu Primary School is one of the few schools in our programme that only has male teachers. So what happens with the menstrual hygiene club?... It must go on.

Coach Richard did a phenomenal job leading the conversation and allowing the girls to take over the discussion while he was there to offer support and even offer clarity when more understanding was needed.

The session had 37 club members, and 20 girls registered to receive a menstrual cup.

At Mpamba Primary School, the club had 18 members present, and 16 of the learners registered to receive a menstrual cup.

Being a very rural school, in a Tonga-speaking community, Coach Bridget and Coach Subilo did a great job conducting the session in Tonga!
